Pelini: Focus on NU tradition, current players

You can access the 2008 Nebraska football media guide, a sharp-looking 207-page publication that has a ton of useful information for any Big Red fan.

You'll notice that Bo Pelini doesn't grace the cover.

"He did not want it to be about him," said Keith Mann, Nebraska media relations director. "He preferred the focus be on the tradition of the program and the players on the current team."

So, the cover's concept, according to Mann: "Connecting with former players has been an important goal for Coach (Tom) Osborne and the coaching staff the past several months. We thought it was appropriate that the cover of the media guide follow along with that theme."

In the Big 12 Conference, only three coaches are on the cover of their respective media guide: Mark Mangino at Kansas, Gene Chizik at Iowa State and Art Briles at Baylor.
