2010 NU football games on BTN

It would be sweet if the BTN picked up an OOC game this year but who among us could watch it anyway? TWC doesn't have the BTN to my knowledge.

Well anyone who has Directv or Dishnetwork would get it already. I am sure TWC will be getting it soon.

Are you certain? I had Dish until recently and don't remember having the BTN

I know for certain Directv shows it nationwide. I am in Des Moines so I am considered Big10 country and I get it here on Dishnetwork. If you dont get it in your basic package outside the footprint you should be able to get it with the sports pack.

The Big Ten Network is available to up to 73 million homes nationwide. The Big Ten Network is available across North America on satellite providers such as DIRECTV, DISH Network and Shaw Direct (Canada), telco companies such as Verizon FiOS and AT&T U-Verse, and on cable in 22 of America's top 25 media markets.

The network has cable distribution agreements with Charter Communications, Comcast, Cox (Cleveland), Insight Communications, Mediacom, Time Warner Cable, RCN, Service Electric, Shaw (Canada) and more than 250 additional cable operators across North America. Customers of DIRECTV and DISH Network have access to the network regardless of where they live. Verizon FiOS and AT&T's U-Verse are rolling out the network across the country.

Cable subscribers inside the eight Big Ten states receive the network on either an expanded basic or digital basic level of service. Outside the eight states, excluding St. Louis, Omaha and Louisville, cable operators who carry the network make it available on a variety of packages. Select markets where the network is available are listed below. If you do not see your city listed here, contact your local system office to see if there are plans to add the network.

Worst case scenario:

The Big 12 doesn't want to lose the TV revenue so they put these games as part of the Fox or ABC/ESPN games so they won't lose part of the Husker TV revenue to other sources.

If the above doesn't happen, Nebraska sells the rights to the games to the Big 10. The Big 10 takes the revenue to put towards making Nebraska "whole" as they enter the conference.

I honestly see this as the most likely scenario. Even if they are games that wouldn't have been part of the TV package in past years, I could see the Big 12 putting them on to withhold more money from NU. My understanding is that NU gets all of the profit from their PPV games, so I wouldn't be surprised if the Big 12 tried to stick it to NU, one last time.

The TV networks, NOT the B12 conference, decide which games they will air. The networks lose money by showing games with less viewership but do not lose money if UNL is on the BTN. And I think the B12 will do its darnedest to get a piece of any BTN money UNL makes.

They can't do anything about it. Each university owns its own TV rights. If we want to put games on PPV we can. If we want to put games on the BTN we can (as long as the BTN agrees of course) and the B12 conference doesn't get to touch a dime of that money. Our average ppv game income is $1.5M (roughly 50k buys) and the revenue isn't split with anyone except the network that broadcasts it (FSN).

As long as ABC doesn't pick up one of our games we are able to do whatever we want with them, all we need is a broadcast partner.

So if we have come to the conclusion NU can plant their probable PPV games wherever they want, do they get shown on the BTN? Or do we go PPV and take the easy 1.5 mill/game? Maybe the Big10 is willing to subsidize what we lose this year (80% of 8-9 million) if we agree to let them broadcast any of our games that are not picked up. It would probably depend on the cost benefit of the BTN, if they can broadcast our games pay us 7 million or more and still come out ahead because of advertising dollars associated with those games I think it would be a done deal.

BTN network probly makes a small margin of money...we don't lose any of our share of revenue...and the BTN gets nebraska exposure before we join the big 10...sounds good to me

Yeah, I'm not certain about games. During the press conference when Delaney announced that the Big Ten had accepted Nebraska, he said the BTN would start showing Nebraska "programming" this year to get Big Ten fans familiar with our school and teams. I'm not sure what that all entails.

I have TWC (in KC) and added Big10 network about 5 minutes after the official announcement. $4 a month and you get some other programming like a Fox Sports channel, outdoor channels, etc. So far it's been pretty lame. Lot of unniversity programming BS. They replay a lot of past games as well.

Some of it is interesting. A lot seems lame to me becasue I don't care so much about the other sports.. I'm a football guy... but if you're into non football stuff it's plenty good. For me, I also got NFL network, the soccer channels and NHL network when I upgraded so I'm good. Only raised my cable bill about $8.

You'll enjoy it more when they have Nebraska week with classic replays

Football season is enjoyable because you get a couple of conference games, every highlight on saturday night (not just 3 plays from OSU, PSU & UM), and then can catch the coaches' shows, which walk you through all of the meaningful highlights. This is a great way to keep tabs on a rival or upcoming opponent.

Basketball season is nice too because you get national access to a lot of games that wouldn't be on TV otherwise. This might not interest Nebraska fans as much, but it is the biggest feature of the BTN (football season is nice but really just replaces Gameplan it doesn't add that much game content, bball does).

Some fans enjoy the access to wrestling, soccer, baseball, softball, track, etc that you would never get otherwise.

The spring is enjoyable because you get a dozen shows at spring practice around the big ten, and at the end they air about 7-8 of them on two saturdays (they usually skip a couple like Northwestern, Purdue, etc).

After that, the content gets pretty weak, but that's the offseason for you. Also, since they have much larger blocks of time to fill, they rotate between a week's worth of classic games for one particular school. This is fun for your school, but means there is a longer lull between interesting games. During the season, they tend to rotate between schools a lot more and use a lot less obscure games for the casual viewer.

The offseason is always dull, because they don't have a full allotment of content yet. They're digitizing about 3-4 decades worth of major games, coaches shows (Bo & Woody giving analysis in their weekly coaches shows), so that will help fill the content when they're done.
