Anyone else find it odd that Vincent Valentine's name wasn't brought up once in the Defensive article? Am I missing something... like him being out because of an injury? Last I heard, Bo expected him to be 100% and ready come Fall. Same with Brodrick Nickens... he get moved back to the offensive side of the ball? Odd that the two biggest guys on the DL aren't even mentioned.
Their names mean something here, but outside of Nebraska they don't.
This. Had he played last year and made some noise, it would be a name they'd mention.

Pretty reliable eyes I know says Valentine is an absolute manchild. Inblockable when he flips the mean switch. If he gets into the necessary shape, he'll be a top cog in the trenches.
Same exact thing I have heard, and from the sounds of it, he is working his a$$ off to get back into shape. Can't really blame him for being out of shape, when your limited in practice and the weight room.

Just odd that you seen Curry's name. He did play last year, one game IIRC, but was never an impact. I do think he will be a great player here though. Just unfortunate he got injured last year as well.
He was out of shape before he was injured and limited in the weight room (words of a a starter/team leader on defense last year). Where have you seen that he has been working his a$$ off to get back into shape? Not denying it, but just haven't heard anything of the sort as he has been at home in Illinois the last several weeks, which I assume isn't the best place to get in shape if you were unable to in one full year in the program with trainers and coaches.

Interesting stats on returning starters/starts courtesy ESPN:

We're way down on returning starters but relatively good in returning starts.

Total starters back for the 2013 season doesn't tell the whole story. University of Colorado sports information director Dave Plati examined which FBS teams have the total number of returning starts as well as returning starters only from the 2012 season.
Five Big Ten teams return more than 250 career starts on their 2013 rosters. They are:

Indiana: 391 total starts, fifth nationally

Wisconsin: 304 total starts, 26th nationally

Ohio State: 298 total starts, 29th nationally

Iowa: 274 total starts, 37th nationally

Nebraska: 269 total starts, 42nd nationally

They must not have done their homework. They have never beaten us and we have them at home. I can't even name one person on their offense. Oh well, looks like we can prove everyone wrong again. And what's with everyone giving all this Michigan love. They have just as many question marks as we do.

Does Vegas not do their homework either? They have MSU winning the divison.

"Vegas" doesn't pick a winner.

Excuse me, I assumed you could infer that the greatest odds of winning as what I called the "winner." I will be sure to check my diction next time.

I know it's easy to think Nebraska is a shoo-in because of our schedule, and we figure to have a really good offense, but Michigan State's conference schedule is even easier. Basically take our schedule and replace Penn State with Indiana. That's how easy their path to Indy is.

I suppose Michigan has the most difficult path since they have to play Ohio State. Unless you want to count Northwestern, but I don't think anyone's taking them seriously as a division contender.

Vegas doesn't set lines or odds based on what "they" think will happen. They set lines and odds based on public perception.

Randy York's 13 for '13 via Huskers.com:

1) NINE-WIN SEASONS: Nebraska is one of only four teams nationally to win at least nine games in each of the past five seasons. The other teams to accomplish that feat are Alabama, Boise State and Oregon.
2) BIG TEN BEST: In Nebraska’s first two years in the Big Ten, the Huskers own the best overall conference record (12-4) and the best division record (8-2).

3) WINNING THE DIVISION: Bo Pelini is the nation’s only coach to lead a team to three conference title games in the past four years. Overall, Nebraska and Northern Illinois are the only two programs in the country which have made three conference championship game appearances in the past four seasons.

4) OFFENSIVE FIREPOWER: Nebraska's 6,451 yards of total offense in 2012 ranked second best in school history. The Huskers return 84 percent of that offense in 2013, including 99.6 percent of the passing yards and 71.1 percent of the rushing yards.

5) SURPRISING HUSKER FIRST: For the first time in school history,Nebraska boasts a pair of returning 1,000-yard rushers from the previous season. Martinez returns for his 2013 senior season after rushing for 1,019 yards in 2012, and Abdullahreturns for his junior season after rushing for 1,137 yards as a sophomore.
