2018 U.S. Open





Dustin Johnson is the favorite to win.  Despite the 1/39 track record of reigning #1s.  Shinec$%k Hills sets up nicely for DJ's skill set.   That, and he seems to be on his game right now.

A triple on day one first hole.  And things didn't get much better after that.  Gotta feel for the guy.

He was 8 over after yesterday which sounds bad.  But, there is only 3 golfers under par right now.  So, he's still in it, but he needs to make a move.

 
Mickey DeMorat.  He's a longshot worth watching.  23 years old from Liberty college playing in his first professional event.  He has no sponsors.  He (apparently) doesn't have a very good caddy.  But he's in 9th place right now, two strokes out of 2nd.   He'd be tied for 2nd place right now except yesterday he hit the wrong ball for a two shot penalty.    LINK

Leave it to Phil Mickelson, a man who has never been shy about his penchant for placing the odd wager or three, to single-handedly determine the outcome of a U.S. Open prop bet.

By now, you've probably seen Mickelson's meltdown on Shinnec$%k Hills' 13th hole on Saturday, and heard his explanation that hitting a moving golf ball is a strategy he's thought about utilizing before (Classic Phil). But you probably didn't realize that the disastrous hole caused a lot of money to change hands in Vegas.

You see, the over/under for highest score by a player on a single hole at this week's U.S. Open was set at 9.5. And despite the carnage seen up to that point in the tournament, no one -- not even Scott Gregory, who shot 92 on Thursday -- had carded worse than a 9 on any one of Shinnec$%k's holes. Until Phil.

Going into Sunday, four guys tied for the lead:  Daniel Berger, Dustin Johnson, Tony Finau and Brooks Koepka.  And 11 more guys within five shots of the lead.  It's gonna be a dogfight today.
