Truthfully just don’t think Hoiberg recognized how talented he was until it was too late

Gotcha. Timing with the transition could have been off too with Fred trying to put together a roster he wanted. I just think with a year to recruit him he might have taken him.

I think it was fit.   He is a face the basket player.  He is too light to play the 5 in the big10.  Not a great outside shooter and Hoiberg likes his 3 & 4 to be able to shoot the 3.

This no doubt plays a part too but i still think given that Fred ultimately offered him he was just hesitant to fully believe in him (could be because of what you outlined above)

I don't know the kid, but he is very athletic on film.  I'm wondering if he had a growth spurt, since he is 6'9', 195.  He needs 20 to 25 lbs.
