2024-25 Season Notes

There are 18 B1G games remaining.  Would like to get to 21 wins - so 10-8 the rest of the way in conference play is a must (currently 1-1).

I like this Husker team a lot.  However, the schedule looks a bit more difficult now IMHO.

9 Home Games -

UCLA
Rutgers
USC
Illinois
tOSU
Maryland
Michigan
Minnesota
Iowa

9 Against Road Games -

at Iowa
at Purdue
at Maryland
at Wisconsin
at Oregon
at Washington
at Northwestern
at Penn State
at tOSU

We are pretty good protecting our house (NU home games).  And it is very challenging to get wins on the road.

However, the B1G gave us home games against some of the league's better teams.  And that will be even more challenging in itself.

Was just going to post a similar question.

We currently have 5 ranked teams on our schedule. MSU (already played and got stomped). Oregon and Purdue on the road. UCLA and Illinois at home. It would be friggen awesome if we stayed undefeated at home and picked up some wins in the road. Washington, OSU and Wisconsin appear to be the best chances for road wins.

Better,  but still not as high as it should be for a team that wants to be an NCAA tournament team.
It is slightly better, but I politely disagree.  I think getting 11 wins in non-conf games should be a yearly priority over playing tougher opponents.  That way, you can build a winning environment / attitude / culture year in and out.  If you can do that 4 years in a row, and finish with 20+ wins a year, it will not be overlooked,  but you can then start scheduling more difficult games with tougher opponents.  But only after you have established that you have a good basketball program that wins games.

Losing can break you down mentally.  It is harder to bounce back after losing to tougher opponents that normally have better basketball programs, because losing is losing no matter what.  Same goes for winning.  But winning can build momentum and create a superior attitude and a successful program.  Once you do that, then you can schedule Gonzaga, Baylor, North Carolina, Alabama, etc

I'm not saying they need to play a top 50 NC schedule, but getting into the top half of D1 schools (180ish) NC schedules should be something they strive for every year.  It would probably mean playing one mid-level team instead of a low-level team & should result in the same NC record.
