2024 Fall Camp Notes - Defensive Backs

White listed Dwight Bootle, Ceyair Wright and Blye Hill as guys getting work at the second CB spot.  No update on Jeremiah Charles, who was injured a couple of days ago.  Amare Sanders also got mentioned.

I think he will play the Omar Brown role from last year. While small, he isn't that much smaller than Brown. I thought Brown was a bright spot last year.

He is quite a lot smaller than Brown. Brown measured in at 6' and 3/8th of an inch and 200 lbs at the shrine bowl, Hartzog is listed at 5'9 180 which means he's likely 5'7.5 and 172 or something.

I do think hiding his lack of height is actually easier at safety though. Could still get exposed, but there's fewer opportunities to be just bullied by a 6'3+ outside WR.

I could be wrong, but I think the move was predicated on speed more than size.  On paper I'd be far more concerned about his weight vs the run.  I'm guessing he's proven himself and they are limiting his exposure to filling the alley, but I still have PTSD from watching Willie Amos try to tackle CU RB's.

When it comes to coverage, Hartzog is undersized consistently.  He can tackle and has good hands though.

As far as our Corners and Safeties go, last season they came up and tackled.  Didn't matter if it was RBs, TEs, WRs.... Our secondary tackled.

It was the big reason why we didn't see opponents get those big long runs that turn into back breakers.

I hope they play like that again.   I loved it.
