DK was a 4 star and we don't know how he will develop yet. Ideal scenario is we start winning yes but how doesn't really matter. DK could definitely end up being an elite QB here it's honestly insane to be treating him like he will be a career backup at this point. I'm not sorry for the kid, he still has 5 years to prove himself.

This is a great take. It does underscore just how truly elite Raiola is, but as you say, it doesn't change how much potential Kaelin has. His ceiling is probably fairly high.

And I think I'd almost rather trade "...and we get another 5 star QB to sign up" for "a Nebraska coaching staff actually develops a QB into a great product." But yes, getting another elite-level QB would be incredible. But also unbelievably unlikely.

As far as the talk on Nelson goes, you have to also remember that you he can play four games and then still redshirt. The staff clearly loves the big bodied guys, so it makes sense he'd see the field a little bit.

I think there's a better than even chance that even if we sign another high 4 or 5 star QB when Raiola leaves, they are unlikely to beat out Kaelin as a 4th year junior. Who knows how things will go, but you just have to sign a QB every year and know that 1/2 to 2/3rds will transfer. It's not just the playbook for Gramstad, he just doesn't have D1 QB talent. Good story, does help the team since he's clearly better than some of the other depth QBs, but coaches have to be asked about him directly. Someone asked one of the scholarship QBs about him (maybe Raiola?) and they got halfway through an answer about Jaylen Lloyd before they realized that's not the Jalyn the reporter meant.

For Nelson, he'll have packages. He won't need to know the whole playbook and all adjustments, although ideally he's got it at some point during the year. You can absolutely work guys in with subsets of plays, but hard to play them if you want to go up tempo or have to pivot from the initial gameplan.

It's clear to me that Gramstad was brought in to help the room with maturity and experience and work towards eventually becoming a GA/coach. He's an absolute emergency option on the field.

 
Sorry guys, but all Gramstad brings to the table is leadership, experience and maturity to the QB room.  He's great for the group in that sense.  But prolly 4th or 5th on a projected depth chart.  

Also, Rhule mentioned that Danny K has "IT" factor, has swag, can read defenses, good arm, and needs time to get his body bigger and arm stronger.  "developing his body and arm strength".  He also said he is an NFL guy and is on his own separate path from Dylan.

I can see him get 3-4 games (backup duty) and redshirting.  Probably become #2 QB next to years (RFR and RSoph) and become first guy to come in with leads and with injuries to starter. 

This year HH has the experience of playing last year and should be #2.  Hopefully we won't need him, but can play with big leads.

He is a mid 3 star on 247, and not in the same universe as a 5 star QB.  He is the 36th ranked recruit on our roster right now, out of 82.  If Raiola is successful, we should try and get another very highly rated kid.   Kaelin could turn out to be a good player, but lets not kid ourselves here with what we are talking about.  The top schools do this every single year, and it isn't "insane" at all, this is how college football works.  I love having Nebraska kids on the roster, but they aren't taking us back to glory at QB.

That did not change when Gramstad arived. It hasn't changed as we quickly approach the announcement of the starting QB and the initial public depth chart.  If they were going to make Gramstad a thing, it would have happened a long time ago when they could have eased their way into it. If they did it now, it would be an absolute disaster. You can't sell yourself as a coach to your players on loyalty and transparency and then pull something so against your messaging at the last minute. You'd lose not only the QB room, you'd lose the locker room.  It simply will not happen unless injuries or similar inability to play happens to those other 3 QBs.

Gramstad is a thing, in that, the coaches brought him in and gave him a shot.  It's one heck of a long shot.  But....you never know and if the kid wants to walkon and try...so be it.  It's rare, but sometimes there is that feel good story where someone rises up and shocks the world.  Who knows, the absolute worst case scenario could happen with the top three going down and he comes in and lights it up. Probably not...but, stranger things have happened.

I'm hoping HH watched the McCaffrey situation a bit, more for HH's sake than for the Huskers.  HH likely has zero future at the next level as a QB but with his size and athleticism, he's going to be a much better prospect in another position.
