2024 Fall Camp Notes - Special Teams

Good point - it's almost a place where you'd want to view a player's punts on a scatter plot graph of some kind to better visualize the upper & lower bounds and their frequency, rather than just looking at an average stat.

And that's really what the original point was by whoever made it: the shanks are definitely costly.

There you go.  Obviously this doesn't take into account field position or weather.  But it looks like 8 punts 30 yards or less, with one of those being a block at Mich. St.  Don't remember if that was a punter issue or a protection issue.

7 punts of 50 yards or more.

You, sir, are a gentleman and a scholar.

I’m overall very optimistic about this year. Yet…why do I still have this fear that the offense and defense will have it together and have a great year, but the special teams are gonna end up screwing us in the end.

it’s weird having to worry so much about the kicking game now! It was a positive for Nebraska for so long!

Alvano now included in the 120-man camp roster.  Was still in a yellow jersey but was kicking on the side.

Which is funny. Why the yellow jersey?  Nobody is touching a kicker in practice.
It also serves as a good reminder for the coaches. If Alvano is going a little slowly during stretches or runs, if he struggles to run off the field quickly during transitions, if he’s not cleared to participate during certain things, etc. If he’s in a normal practice jersey, it can be easy to forget he’s not cleared for everything.

Kickers do that stuff?

Let's just hope the Special Teams Unit can tackle.

We got new questions about the kicking game, and a Punter with no hang time...  Which is great for punt returners.   And it's not like he's punting 50 yards in the air.

This will be interesting.  Special Teams.

If the NFL is successful this year with the new Kickoff rule, we will likely see College Football switch to it next season.  Or within 1-2 years.

And I'm fine with that.  Kickoffs the go out of the endzone is a wasted play.  Especially if both sides combine for 10 kickoffs a game.

Ughh, its just a wasted play to get to another 1 1/2 minutes of commercials/advertising.
