2025-26 Season Notes

I’m nervous. This is typically where our men’s teams break out hearts.

No need to be nervous, they'll make the tournament almost for sure now just don't expect them to continue undefeated, or even without 4-5 losses in conference. This team is good but in reality they aren't a top 10 team. Solid top 20 ranking and I would be thrilled with about 14-6/13-7 in conference honestly. Anything beyond that is exceeding expectations.

I know they aren’t going to go undefeated. I’m just hoping they don’t really show their human side after that first loss and go on a losing streak.

Or, it would be typical for them to remain top 10 and have a 2-3 seed and still lose the first round.

Do tell me what a top ten team looks like then…or what their resume looks like? I would say, as of now, the ranking is more than earned. And until they prove otherwise you can’t say otherwise

I'll give you the resume to date, that's fair. I'm saying a top 10 team is a legit national title contender and I am not ready to say Nebraska is in that conversation.

There is a large separation between Nebraska and Michigan or Arizona. I do think we are deserving of our ranking but I don't see us as potentially winning the tournament. To me that is the definition of a top team. I would be more than happy if we only lose 5 or 6 games the rest of the way. I know that sounds pessimistic but we could have easily dropped 2 or 3 games already but the ball bounced our way at the right times. That's awesome it happened and I am having a ton of fun watching this group. I still view them for who they are though and, being realistic, think we are likely a 20th ish type of team. Probably a 4 or 5 seed with a very good chance to win a game or two in the tournament- historically good season.

I'll say this, we've seen crazy things happen in March Madness. Seems like every year some low-key gets to the Elite 8 and even Final 4. St. Peters, Florida Atlantic, Loyola Chicago. Why not Nebraska? If Nebraska can catch lightning in a bottle, anything can happen. But I'll say this, the Big 10 is a tough tough conference. No gimmies regardless if it's the best or worst record in the league.

Absolutely. As a fan, I'm soaking it up and taking it one game at a time. If they exceed expectations, great! I just think some fans are setting themselves up for a let down for no reason. At this point, with what the team has shown us, I think we can realistically expect to get in the tournament with a good seeding and have a great chance to get the tournament win monkey off of our back.... essentially placing us as one of the17-32 teams in the country. That feels right. Sweet 16 also feels possible but until we get that first win, I'm doing my best to stay realistic.

Nobody is saying we are a top 2-3 team in the country. The question was, if we are a top 10. There's a big difference between teams ranked 1-3 and teams ranked 8-10.

At this point I'd say that Michigan, Arizona & Iowa State are clearly the top three teams & there is a pretty big gap between them & everyone else. Uconn, Purdue, Duke & Houston are probably the next group. I'd put Nebraska in the third group with BYU, Michigan State, Vanderbilt, Ganzaga and a couple other teams.
