2025 Polls and Rankings

When people ask me where Nebraska has to finish this year, this is my response. They have to at least win the middle 6. Which is 7th. Anything higher, awesome; anything lower, a disappointment.

I know it was just Akron, but a couple of years ago, we didn't look that good on air.

2 spots below Kansas State..😂😂😂😂

At some point, these statisticians should probably reevaluate their models if they want to be taken seriously. Or just don’t come out with the rankings till week 5 or so since they admit their modeling relies heavily on preseason projections.

None of the people making the models are claiming these are accurate yet, but they're going to get published because it's something to talk about. Anything with rankings gets clicks, they aren't going to withhold them for 5 weeks just to be more accurate. There's no model that can accurately assess the early season transitive win chaos and offseason + week to week improvement, but they can give a different perspective on teams. Everything at this point in the year is an overreaction, but sometimes the computers overreact to different things than the media so it's at least something different.

But I agree, the way they avoid incredibly wild swings by just saying things like "70% of the weight in this weeks ratings is actually just the preseason rankings" is pretty funny and clearly not a good rating system. Just a crutch to avoid looking crazy until more games are played, but when teams wildly under or overperform you end up looking crazy anyway. Some people are putting out rankings with no inputs aside from the games and they are just as bad (with different teams) as the ones using preseason rankings/returning production.

Ok. How about #44 on SP+? Does that make you feel better?

Nebraska now checks in at #28. The Akron game wasn't updated in the system when SP+ originally ran.
