2025 Spring Practice Notes

Good Lord.

the destruction of college football continues.

I have several thoughts but will refrain for lack of space and time. I know there may be good reasons for this. But I can think of several and many reasons why this just…kinda makes me sad.  College football is in the dust.

This feels like nothing more than an admission of what's been obvious for a while.  Rhule tried to bring the spring game back to life & was taught a lesson last year.  Imo, football isn't meant to be played year around, spring ball should be a 2 week install period with very limited contact anyway.  Find another way to generate revenue & don't waist the practice.

Let's have a gladiator/special forces type competition for the last remaining spots in the 105.

Do it like AGT.  Put 3 guys out there.  Then the announcer goes, which one is staying??  Then have them announce the name.  The rest of you losers, clean out your lockers and turn in your playbook!

Thats going to generate more money/TV than an actual spring game? How this is a net-positive from a fan perspective?

I no longer live in NE. The spring game was a great way for me to stay connected during the off season. And when its actually a "game," like we've seen the past two seasons, its quality entertainment. Unsure about your comment that a lesson was taught about bringing the spring game "back to life."

The spring has been boring for decades.  Kind of like the pro bowl.

Do a flag football game and a concert.  Just do like what they did for volleyball game in memorial stadium.

Carriker had mentioned the we had 2 ACL injuries last spring? Can't recall who, maybe Teddy was one? I guess it makes sense to me with a much smaller roster, the players are worth more to the bottom line with the revenue share. It's always fun to watch and stay connected to the team, but is it really needed? There is so many Husker soc media out there, there are plenty of ways to stay connected. I'm sure Wilbur Dittsy will make up some drama every day. We are one of very few schools that show up for a spring game.

Demetrius Bell & Blye Hill?

Bly Hill was a lower leg injury but not an ACL which is why you saw him later in the season instead of being gone for the usual 12 mos post- ACL.

I think Teddy did his in fall camp. I am unaware of who the other player that had significant injury in the spring game.

I think that Maverick Noonan did his the year prior?

GO BIG RED!!!!!!!!

Wondering if we will see spring games go away nationally? The roster limit changes so much.

Will spring practices still be a thing?

The guys on Early Break this morning were talking about spring ball going to more of a system install type of practices with much less full contact than before.  And....yes....most programs will do away with an actual spring game.

This is the first move that I don't like but it is for selfish reasons.

The spring game for me and my friends is an event.  It is an excuse to go to Lincoln for the day in the spring and drink, walk around, goof off, share stories and just have a good time.

Clearly you don't "NEED" a spring game for that BUT, it helps to have that as the backdrop.

They are still going to have some type of an event.  Possibly work volleyball into it too....at least that was speculated on the radio.

That is good that they will have something.  Like I said, for selfish reasons I liked it and the "new thing" will probably not be something that gets me there but if it gets others to go that is a good start.
