2026 DL Anthony Jones -> Nebraska

Nothing against the dude and I hope he plays well here, but I am underwhelmed. I feel ok about Pietrzak and Nwaneri at DE (and hoping Davis comes back), I feel less good about the interior. Experience is good, 5th school in 5 years makes me nervous. DL stats in particular aren't incredibly informative on their own, but pick Jones production last year out of the guys we had last year (and still have, pending Davis' decision). All of them are younger than him:
  1. 17 tackles, 7 TFLs, 2 sacks
  2. 23 tackles, 2.5 TFLs, 2 sacks
  3. 27 tackles, 5 TFLs, 2.5 sacks
  4. 32 tackles, 3.5 TFLs, 1.5 sacks
  5. 20 tackles, 2.5 TFLs, 1.5 sacks
1 = Pietrzak, 2 = Lenhardt, 3 = Nwaneri, 4 = Davis, 5 = Jones
He looks like more of a run stopper. Probably will be replaced on 3rd down.

I mean sure, grab a run stopping Edge from the 117th ranked rush defense by YPG allowed and 129th by YPC allowed. Why not. I like our transfer class a lot overall, scratching my head on this one.
Im not, our DEs were horrible against the run. He's a one yr. Gap filler. We have room as we still have some players that don't count toward the roster limit.

And he wasn't? I don't know either way, but kinda feels like you jumped to "run stopper" based on size and lack of sacks. UCLA's run defense was measurably worse than our last year, and while he is only one player I don't see any evidence that he was an exception to their general failure to stop the run. If we're just taking shots on players because we have room, give me a guy with production and questionable physical skills or a guy with a lot of potential. I don't see any use for guys without production or long term potential.

i think we might be a little thin at the position so some depth can't hurt. i don't think he is a plug and play starter but he might earn the starter role in camp competition.

I think one set of those video clips is him blowing up our new QB
