Ok, so I had some extra time on my hands and went through the box scores of each game from 1993 through 1997, and from 2004 through 2006.
Granted, the 1993 - 1997 years yielded 3 national titles, with Oz at the top of his game and his most talent-rich. 2004 through 2006 was wholesale regime/scheme/recruiting change from top to botttom.
During that span, Ozburn had 50 of 63 games, bowls and CCG's included, where NU scored in the 3rd quarter. That's a 79.37%.
2004 through 2006 yielded 23 of 37 games, bowls and CCG's included, where NU scored in the 3rd quarter. That's a 62.16%. If NU scored in the 3rd quarter of EVERY game in 2007 (14 - assuming we win the North plus the obvious bowl bid) , the total percentage under Callahan would still be just over 72%.
An interesting note: 2006 was by far the WORST for scoring in the 3rd under Callahan - just 5/14. '05 was 10/12, and '04 was 8/11.
I'm NOT bashing Cally - perhaps I should go back and compare the numbers from 1973 - 1975. But his teams haven't shown that fire in the 2nd half (with some exceptions).
My point being, Ozburn knew, no matter what happened in the first half, he had to re-establish control in the 2nd half. I don't know if we're seeing that consistently yet.
If we score in the 3rd quarter 11 games out of 14 in 2007 (around 79%), we'll do pretty well...
