408 left us high and dry

"At the end of the day, I think we have kids in our program that are capable of winning championships.”

Anyone who doesn't think Bo left us high and dry roster wise, I refer you to our DE and LB depth chart.

Nebraska has always had lots of walk on on their roster. Go back and look at the roster from 1995 if you can find a travel roster I would bet that at least 20 of those guys started as walk-ons.

I remember the announcers saying it during our first game for crying out loud. "Nebraska has a total of 5 LB's on scholarship on the entire football team! That's crazy!"

We have 4 non true freshman LBs on scholly. Bando, Rose-Ivey, Newby, and Gifford.

Gifford was recruited at S. We also lost Santos over the summer b/c he didn't like going to class.

Makes me sick to be honest with you. How in the hell do you compete for the B1G with such a talent issue, let alone on the national stage?! Oh, that's right, you can't..............that really sucks!

85 schollies. DPE hurt so that is 1 guy down. 13 of our incoming fresh redshirted. So that takes us down to 71 available sholarship guys that could travel to the game. 3 or 4 of the walk ons are specialists which is not too surprising (K,P,LS). The rest are mostly products of the great tradition of walkons at Nebraska. If we didnt have those guys we would be furious that we killed the walk on tradition. (Utter, Gangwish, Dzuris, Foster,Hovey, Janovich, Reilly) Those guys start for a lot of big ten teams so I dont see what you are saying about roster talent issues. This loss was on execution and poor initial game planning by our defensive staff not bc we missed on a couple guys in the recruiting process. That happens everywhere.
I was going to go through the same exercise. Thanks.

So, we have 79 on the travel roster, we only have 71 scholarship players that would even be considered to go. 3 for specialists (typically would be a scholarship type player) I would also say that there are a number of those walk-ons that have proven they really actually deserve to be a scholarship player.

I'm not too alarmed with this number. Do we always need better talent? 99.9999% of the programs in the country would say they need to always be improving on talent.

Talent wasn't why we lost this game or the BYU game.

You guys are delusional. This team has talent, and more then a majority of the teams will will face. The areas we are weakest have the most scholarship players.

(And, if you believe the number of walk on is a negative reflection, then Bo must be a miracle worker as he: got at least 9 wins with roughly the same number of walk ons; and was able to get quality players here without offering scholarships).

You can argue we're depleted at DE and LB, and maybe even QB.

Ok, so what about DT, Safety, CB, OL, WR, RB???

Again, I ask for someone to show me how talent is why FAU outrushed us against Miami (at 6.8 ypc, vs 4.8), or why we we kepting matching up a LB on the slot? Or how about the "adjustments" that the staff could make to help Davie didn't happen, so they pulled him?

I agree that talent is not why we lost this game or the BYU game. On the flip side, not trying to be that guy and call players out but Davie would not be starting at most Power 5 programs.

I think most everyone (who is not trolling) will agree that we have a problem with both talent and coaching (mainly the D scheme) at the moment.

I'd agree with that. What I don't agree with, is the root post. This is EXACTLY what happened in 2008.

"Oh, Bo just needs time to get HIS guys, because we have no talent"

Yeah, no.

Davie played pretty well last year.

Probably had more to do with the scheme than his overall talent. He consistently had help last season and now we see home alone on an island and he struggles.
