9-3 starting to look real

But again my comment is, do we have a better defense this year. I have not seen anything that indicates it so far, but it really isn't fair as we have not faced a real team yet. I see an attitude, but the 2003 team had an attitude, and again every time they face a ranked team they got beat up.

I think Bo had a much better team the last time around. Just having Super D made the team. We are placing a lot of hope on this team, Me not so much. I do not expect a lot, and until I do, I will try and reign you guys in. Man that is a tough job, you bunch of Kool Aid drinkers you.

the italicized answers the question in bold. but I agree with playing a great offense. expecting our patheticc defense to turn around and shut down a big time team ins not reasonable. we will have to have a big time offensive game + turnovers + luck.

but I do think we can shut down a very average team like CU. esp by the end of the year.

but I thinks its fair to say their has been some improvement just gaged on attitude, pressure and turnovers. it will have to continue to improve all season if we want to see anything better than 6-7 wins

i think we will struggle against CU.....again.

I'm not making any predictions. I'd just like to say I'm not sure we'd be 3-0 right now if BC and crew were still here.

Realistically, we will struggle against a lot of teams this year. We will win some, and we will lose some. What i want to see is how the kids react in these situations. Will they learn to do the things necessary to win close games, or will it take more time?

Once they learn to win those games, they gain confidence. Then they believe that they are going to win. With the talent gap in college football so narrow now, that confidence and belief is everything.

Personally, I believe that 9+ wins are possible, but not likely. It depends so much on the chemistry of the team and the attitude of the players. Remember, most people last year were predicdting 6 or 7 wins, at most, for KU and MU. But the kids gained confidence and came together. Winning breeds winning, and losing breeds losing.

I see us getting more than 6 wins as unlikely --- not a single gimme on the schedule (well, there are three reverse gimme games --- where we are a gimme for Oklahoma, Missouri and TTech). Between the other games no one we play is sufficiently weaker than us that victory is assured (unlike the three glorified High School teams we just played). Baylor, Iowa State and Kansas State can all readily beat Nu though we should win those. Colorado, Kansas those are games in which NU has a chance but we will be underdogs.

I am very interested in seeing how Colorado stacks up against WVa tonight. They are 3 point dogs.

If they have the speed to play with WVa they will be tough by the time we face them I think.

They are a pretty good team with a year of experience and a damned good coach. He is a no funny business type of guy. They worked hard over the off season I am sure.

It really sucks playing all these weak teams, I would have much preferred seeing VaTech or another BCS team earlier. This not knowing what is in the tank sucks.

There's a difference between realism and pessimism . . .

VT is winnable and so is Kansas. I havent been impressed with Kansas yet(Last year or this year) so I think that game is very winnable too. Hell Kansas will probably come into our game with 3 losses.

9-3 is reasonable I believe. 8-4 is more probable.
I wouldn't bet the farm on that. KU is better than Nebraska. Sorry.
Now, don't get my last comment twisted Husker nation. I'm not saying Nebraska can't beat KU in lincoln. They can. But KU is the better team as of today. But that's why the games aren't played on paper, they're played on the field. Just ask South Florida. I still feel KU is the better team. The ehat and humidity wore our defense down. Then Reesing got greedy late. I'm going to have nightmares about that game for the rest of the season.

I still think Nebraska goes 7-5 and goes to a good bowl game. However, i will be cheering like HELL for NU to beat MU. God I hate them so.
In response, KU was better than Nebraska LAST SEASON dawg. This year, just look at the W-L records :)
KU is probably better this season too. Regardless, i think it is too early to say 9-3, a winning record in the big 12 would be needed, nothing to take for granted, plus a va tech win, which is a good chance of happening but no foregone conclusion. I think if you thought NU was not gonna run these chumps, you were very much a member of the hater camp.
No brotha, I'm not a KU hater. They are a solid football team. I'm just not gonna pucker up to a comment that says

"KU is better. Sorry."

Especially seeing that comment after a recent bitter (Jayhawk) defeat.

A lot of us have said repeatedly that KU is a good team that only needs to win a few tough challenges. But yet, statements like that are just not good enough. Well this past week y'all got one. It was an entertaining game but South Florida did not get the memo that KU was 12-1 last year so therefor, write it up to Rock Chalk Jayhawk victory before it's even played. That was the first test of many to come this year, my man.

Y'all will still be solid this year. Like I said, the "matter of fact, KU is better" doesnt fly well. My response to that is not going to change. And it certainly doesnt automatically make me a hater. I just happen to disagree.

The Huskers are underdogs and are fighting this year, taking them one game at a time. And I'm enjoying the success. Y'all have penciled in yourselves as North Division Champs or barely runner ups.

Just remember that the season before KU was 12-1, they were 6-6. So it is conceivable that the Huskers could go from 5-7 to 9-3.

It's one game at a time brotha.

Peace

K, we've established that KU's a gimme and MO prolly not.

Not much is being said about OU 'cept that it'll be a 'deathmarch'.

OU looked unbeatable to start '07, then look how they ended up: 3 losses, all 3 pretty much embarrassments. So, they are capable of laying some eggs.

I tend to think, because they don't run the spr/opt, that they are more beatable for GBR than MO.

What think ya'll? :dunno

I think it boils down to talent. Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas Tech and from the looks of it Colorado have talent. Is ours equal or close. As of now all have more experience and better coaches. Maybe not long range but right now I would take any but Pinkel over Bo. Nothing against him, just his lack of experience on the big stage controlling the current.

After the Colorado/West Virginia game I am even more concerned about the Buffs, the one good thing is we have them at home. But Hawkins is building something we will have to deal with from now on I think, all the north will.

Louisville could not stop when him when he got going. And we have always had problems with good tight ends. He really seemed to be a weapon like Herian in the beginning.

I know they need more than him, but he did make some good moves and yards.

I was joking some, but he did impress me.

Here's the thing: in order to be consistently effective in the passing game, a tight end needs to have a capable quarterback.

Kansas State does not have one of those.
