97 Degrees on Sat.

Akron in 1997 has last years Southern Miss game beat. And it really isnt that close. That is and probably always will be the hottest game I've ever attended. I was young. In junior high-and had a hard time with that day from what I remember. Anyone else recall however many it was stretchers that had to be passed up and down that day for folks who couldnt handle the heat just sitting there. it was well over 100 degrees.

How about field surface?

Air Temperature = 94F (test bed)

Bermudagrass Temperature = 104F

Sand Temperature = 132F

Asphalt Temperature = 136F

FieldTurf Temperature = 165F

That is why 7:00PM instead of high noon.

Is it too late to tear out the crappy FieldTurf and install natural sod? :wink

With a high of 97 on Saturday, by 7pm it will be in the lower 90's, if we are lucky. Too early to know about wind. Besides by that time, most of the field should be in the shade anyway, so it should feel cooler than it would in the sun.

I don't buy accuweather's forecast of 89. Accuweather only cares about getting the forecast right for the east coast, they don't care about the rest of the nation.

The new FieldTurf (which we now have) has a lower temperature. It's supposed to be 35 degrees cooler than the original.

Ya, we're one of the first to get it. I imagine it will be commonplace as old field wear-out, at least in the south.

I have never been to a game hotter than the Southern Miss game last year. That was simply miserable and it was the first time that I honestly wished I would have just stayed home and watched the game.

This also is hard evidence of why no games should start before 5-7 pm before Oct 1st unless it is specifically needed for TV schedules.
