A little History Lesson

Ok here are the facts on why Bob Devany was probably not even being considered to be fired and everyone is demanding Callahan be fired.

1952-1962- NU goes 38-60 over this decade

Devany takes over

1962-1965(7 games into the season) Devany goes 35-5

Fastforward through the greatest time as a husker

2003-1994 Nu goes 108-21 over this decade

Callahan takes over

2004-2007 (7games into the season) Callahan goes 24-18

Devany won 3 conference titles in his first 4 years

Callhan has been to one title game

Given that Callahan is playing in a different age and what Devany did would be unbeleiveably hard in these days, there is no way they were going to fire Devany for 2 bad years after what he did for the program.

I definitely stand corrected that Devaney had 3 - 5 excellent years prior to the 1967/1968 "bad" years, and that if BC would have done the same (say a couple of 10 win seasons) prior to this one, then he wouldn't be on such a "hot" seat.

It is not a matter of record, or how bad we get beat. It is the fact that the team looks so uninspired. I didn't even feel this bad about the team during Callahan's first year, I knew the players were trying and fighting to win each game. When I watch them play this year it feels as if that same fight we are used to seeing is not there. I don't say this to bash the players, I say this because I don't think the coaches are inspiring the players. Besides, I don't see any losing records on that list, and one blowout by OU doesn't really account for getting your a$$ handed to you by OSU. Personally I don't think they compare.

umm except he took over a program that had never won a program, and for the first time gave Nebraska something to brag about....

Assuming you mean took over a program that had never been a winning program ...

Not quite.

The threat is "A little History Lesson."

The '40s and '50s were low times for a program that is among the top five in wins in history.

They were awesome in the '20s and '30s, their biggest wins in the days before polls over Knute Rockne's Notre Dame teams, beating the Four Horsemen in 1922 (7-0) and 1923 (14-7) and again in 1925 (14-0), after the Horsemen had graduated.

Those guys could play defense.
