A team we mirror very much...

I think we mirror them in a lot of ways, and to clear it up, yes I mean the sames 2003 LSU Tigers who won the NC, I'm not saying we will either we just have a lot in common...

1. Both teams started all the polls in the late teens.

2. Both teams played their first game against a team from Louisiana and played a away game against the PAC 10  and even both played Lou. Tech

3. Both had Senior starting QBs, that were just quiet.

4. Solid defenses starting with their DEs

5. Starting RBs were young (Soph and Freshmen)

I realize some of those are stupid and mean nothing but if you really compare the teams they are a lot alike! Im just posting this because people are saying we are a stretch at winning the NC, just like people would have said about LSU a few years back, just an example of the team not having the start in the top 5-10 to win a NC

:power

I like to think of us as the Sooners who won the NC in 2000. Their QB was a JUCO transfer. Their defense was strong. They found ways to win. The slowly crept up on everybody. I see NU being that team this year.

I like both comparisons. I think the strong D and returning QB are huge +'s for any team. This year is going to be huge!

I never realized how much we had in common with LSU. I think we are more like OU in 2000. Juco Senior QB, who is the heart and soul for the team. The D is athletic, especially with the linebackers. Both are in the Big XII, and they both have big games at home in October. Us for OU in 2000. Texas for us this year. GBR!

I like the comparisons and can see where you guys are coming from. I hope that the predictions come true and we are in fact celebrating another National Championship!!! ;)

Is anyone else out there at all concerned about our defense? I mean, most everyone is saying how this is going to be a big time defense. We gave up lots of yards and points last year to anyone any good that we played. We also lost some solid senior leadership up front. Until I see us shut down a very good team, this defense is nothing more than average at this point. I see NU having some growing pains on D, mainly because of newbies up front (I realize they have played). Couple this with the loss of Bowman, and we could have some problems stopping folks if EVERYTHING does not pan out. At this point, I would be happy if they were just as good as last year, about 25th or so in total defense. We'll find out when NU plays USC what type of defense we have. Thoughts??
