A team we mirror very much...

Is anyone else out there at all concerned about our defense? I mean, most everyone is saying how this is going to be a big time defense. We gave up lots of yards and points last year to anyone any good that we played. We also lost some solid senior leadership up front. Until I see us shut down a very good team, this defense is nothing more than average at this point. I see NU having some growing pains on D, mainly because of newbies up front (I realize they have played). Couple this with the loss of Bowman, and we could have some problems stopping folks if EVERYTHING does not pan out. At this point, I would be happy if they were just as good as last year, about 25th or so in total defense. We'll find out when NU plays USC what type of defense we have. Thoughts??
That's fair. Losing LeKevin up front was huge (except for the TT game) but I agree, the potential is definitely there, but they have a lot to prove. I was thinking that Bowman was going to turn into All-Conference this year, and losing him is definitely a step back. So....like everyone else...we'll wait and see.

I think we could see an even better defense this year. We have some players who were hurt last year who were supposed to be key players last year. I look for them to be key players this year. On the D-Line we've got Carriker and Moore on DE; Dagunduro and Cryer at DT. All of em had sacks and a few TFL's. I think Moore and Carriker are going to rush the ends, force the QB into the middle and our Linebacking Corps (who has got to be our most loaded and talent group of the bunch) will be waiting for em with open arms. My concern is our secondary. They struggled last year. That may still be our weakest link on D. But that's not taking anything away from them. I just think our D-line and LB corps are our strong points on Defense.

I truely believe that gaining Octavien is bigger than losing Le Kevin, Titus, and Bullocks put together. Octavien will be HUGE.

Last year, it seemed that our defense lived by the model, "bend but don't break". I think this year we will attack a little bit more and will not give up those outside curl routes that became a habit with the corners playing off the line so far. Hopefully our secondary is good enough to take those plays away.

If Fluellen and Spain can get the position down, our secondary could be very good. With their size against the smaller and even the bigger receivers, they could make a habbit of breaking up plays a lot. Hopefully they can get it down.

The only thing I'm worried about on our defense is the secondary. I think our line and especially our ends will be fine. Our Linebackers are going to be outstanding I think teams will have problems running on us. I just want to see how Bowman's replacement does now!!!! :ohnoes

i think that the DB's will do just fine, with the amount of pressure that is going to be on the QB's this year these guys wont have to cover like a glove forever, but they di have to be able to cover some
