after practice interviews

J. Jackson was a walk on but is now on scholarship.

The other corner position probably won't be decided until they have game reps to look at. Whoever starts week 1 will obviously be the leader in the clubhouse but I'm guessing we'll see several guys there. I just hope somebody steps up and takes that position before big 10 play starts.

I'm surprised J. Jackson is ahead for the center spot. I wonder if that is an indictment against Pensick or if JJ has stepped up and is just too nasty to keep off the field.

He's had a very good camp. He and BQ have had the two best camps as far as Oline goes.

I think it's funny when fans are like, "Oh no! We have a walk-on starting!"

Well...sh#t....Choi and Long have been 2 of the best lineman, regardless of being a walk-on that I've seen in some time. I'd argue they could end up both being better than NEB's most recent talented O-lineman, Ricky Henry. Walk-on or not, I want the best on the field. It seems there tends to be a negative perception with walk-ons amongst some fans......and I'm not following that paradigm.

Listened to the Terry Joseph interview. He said SJB, Mitchell, Bell, Green, and Mo Seisay are all guys that he would feel comfortable putting in the game at corner. He gave no indication as to who the leaders for the starting jobs were as far as I heard, but I have to assume that Green has one side locked down.

I will be interested to see how Ciante looks on the field next week as well.
Correct on that. The other guys are fighting for the the other side but they all can play both sides. Who ever becomes #2 pretty much can be that guy at either spot in most cases but they hope to kind of figure it out and keep them at one spot or the other. I've not heard it personally from the horses mouth but I was told that Bo has stated this is the deepest we've been in the secondary since he's been here including his first stop. We have 8-9 guys in the backfield that could start at most D1 schools.
I am starting to think that SJB will be the first corner to trot onto the field opposite of Green. After that, I am excited to see what Mitchell can do, even though I have to admit it scares me to have a 160 pound CB trying to make tackles in the open field.

Thanks da skers glad you stuck around, i might have gotten kicked off here if one of my comments ran you out of town, Barney Cotton would have thanked me for taking the heat off him on HB.

By all accounts Jackson has a bit more upside then Cole, and he is nasty and plays mean, like Ricky Henry. I mentioned this in another thread but they call him Junior as in Ricky Henry..junior, because he plays just like him. The only bad part about Jackson starting is we would have 3 different centers in 3 years, but well worry about whos starting next year, next year.

Yeah. I don't think its a huge deal. Some kids develop late and honestly Nebraska high schools are behind most states in football. You have several good football states that have kids with spring football and we're not allowed to do that here. I wish that would change and the kids could practice a month or two in the spring also. I'm sure a lot of that is do to the fact that were about an 80% rural state but I think Lincoln and Omaha could really get some help with making those kids more college ready.

Forgot to mention it but its evident that Choi worked on his pass blocking skills all summer and its seemed to help. I know that's the one area he was told out of spring ball he'd need to get better at if he wanted to start. I think we could easily work our way into a 55 or 60% passing team in the next two-three years (maybe more depending on the QB). Cotton indicated he's now one of the best pass blockers. I'm not sure I believe the guy when he says that as hes still a sunshine pumper type of coach but he's obviously improved to grab the top spot. (or at least have the shot at it.)

(Arky State is my stumble game).
I'm with you. This Arkansas State team is much better than the last one that came to Lincoln.

Nebraska will still win it, but it'll be close enough that Huskerboard will be temporarily infested with debbie downers.

I still don't understand how Osborne won't see the field.
Osborne has had a concussion so they are a bit cautious with him. Bo mentioned that in his show the other day. He gave the top 3 safeties and then mentioned Osborne's situation.

Westerkamp while he has tremendous hands, he also the playbook to deal with and the position seems solid right now with good depth & talent. I would rather have him for 4 years rather than him spend his year with little playing time like Turner or Paul or Arod. Etc....

If he locks up his side of the field I could care less how big he is! Oh Baron Miles says whassup!

Temporarily? You know the season will NEVER live up to the hype. Besides...I kinda like the debbie downer meltdowns. Makes Huskerboard more diverse. Sometimes even join in myself.

You beat me to it. "Temporarily"? Lol! Oh yeah, the meltdowns are truly epic as everybody (including yours truly) have 30 or so beers in them and there's little to no restraint in comments whatsoever.

Huskerboard is never boring!
