I agree that we shouldn't be calling for a coaches head, but I'm pretty sure the read option is pretty much the only running play we saw today, especially when the game mattered. Now, that play is decent, especially since you can go to a playaction off it so quickly, but it loses something when the defense doesn't respect your QB as a running threat at all.I think we're being a bit too harsh. WAY too many mistakes. These are player mistakes, not coaches. While I understand the discipline is often a direct reflection of the staff, the coaches aren't the one's playing. It's hard for me to say this because I personally believe its a coaches RESPONSIBILITY to take all the blame whether its warranted or not. In this case, I have to stand up for them a bit before they get stoned to death.
You look across the country and see plenty of lines with inferior size and talent not accounting for 50 yards of penalties per game. It comes down to coaching, plain and simple. They're not disciplined because they're not coached to play disciplined. Or run block, apparently. They couldn't open a hole to save themselves from the fires of hell.
Agree totally. The only thing consistent about our line right now is that Ricky Henry will get a personal foul or holding penalty, and we'll have at least three false starts. When the only thing consistent about your line is penalties, the wheels are off the cart and it's time to buy a new cart.
I think your last statement pretty much sums it up. When I watch our offense it seems like we run the same 10-15 plays over and over again, which would be fine if they worked...wow, we actually outyarded them. it just seems like we have the biggest, smallest playbook ever if that makes any sense.
If Watson requested that Bo replace Cotton and Green starts the rest of the year, that would satisfy my bloodlust for at least another season. My issue is I look at the play calling and I can't figure out what the hell kind of team Watson wants to be. He runs when he should pass and passes when he should run. We dink and dive when we're down 21 in the fourth quarter. We can't run out of the gun or under center, it seems. And all the while we have to sit and watch Lee get sacked like a lunch and throw checkdown passes for two yard losses. Where is the coaching? Where is the fire? Where is the strategy?
