Andy Birkel

So that makes it true?lol
I didn't say whether it was true or not, I said I read that it happened. He ALLEGEDLY was arrested Saturday night.

You still laughing out loud?
You basically said you believe it. Not saying it's not true because mip isn't a real big deal. Where is andy going anyways?
It was probally a big deal to Andy otherwise he wouldn't have ran from the cops.
I'm saying, how many kids have got mip's in there life. It's not like he killed a kid or beat up someone, he was just having some beer. I'm sure you did that a time or two gamecocks?
I did get an MIP and I thought that it was a very big deal and so did my teammates, coaches, parents, teachers, and friends.
Were you in high school? Was it in School? Did you learn anything from it and quit drinking until you were 21?

I got mine when I was a sophomore during basketball season. I didn't drink again until I got to college where I only had myself to let down if I got caught again. Big difference between the two.

Not sure I believe you about the never drank again in high school, could be but I doubt it. I dont know about you but if I got a mip in college my parents would still be pretty dissappointed in me.

But yet you think that its no big deal that Andy got one in college????????

From OWH:

Former Nebraska receiver Andy Birkel was arrested Saturday after Lincoln police said he tried to run away from them.

Birkel, 20, was charged with failure to comply to the order of a police officer, possession of a false identification and minor in possession.

Capt. David Beggs said police were dispatched to investigate a loud party shortly after midnight on Saturday and observed Birkel obtain an alcoholic beverage and open it. Birkel ran for at least a block, police say, and hid before being taken into custody.

Birkel's arraignment date is March 16.

The sophomore from Lincoln Southeast left the football team in December in part because of his limited role with the team. He blasted Coach Bill Callahan on his way out, saying his final meeting with the coach was "very unprofessional, very rude."

Dang, wonder if it's true since I just read it in the OWH? Sounds like Birkel gave up pretty easily, just like football!! haha

Let me start by saying that I am NOT an Andy Birkel fan... I think that he wasn't going to live up to home-grown expectations, so instead of disappointing the home folks, he quit and blasted the program......kinda "saving face"....

BUT, the kid messed up.......SO WHAT

Is anyone surprised that a minor ran from the cops, and oh my goodness, he was drinking alcohol...... Sounds a lot like most of the high school kids I went to school with, and now teach.....Also sounds like almost every college party I attended....

Give the kid a break.......although.....he only outran the cops for a block?????, what happened to the "Break away speed" he was going to showcase?? HA

I don't think that you can lable Birkle as "Franks" guy or anyone as the "Coach's guy".....Yes, Kids represent the program and coach, but kids will mess up...

I absolutely love TO, but if I remember right, he had a number of players that didn't always do the right thing.....NO ONE CHASED HIM OFF !!!!

It's not something to want to do but I wouldn't say it makes you a bigtime criminal by any means. Cops in lincoln love to bust athletes.

very good post. Thats what I have been trying to get through for awhile now about this topic.

As far as being a bigtime criminal, he's a criminal since he committed a crime. Bigtime, not bigtime, he's a criminal.

Cops bust criminals. I'm sure they don't have it out for athletes in Lincoln. What a stupid statement.

If that's what you meant, then why didn't you say it yourself? As far as the cops loving to bust athletes, I am not sure if I buy that. Cops in Lincoln seem to love to bust college kids period. I have been at parties and had them busted up by the cops for no reason other than that they know it is a solid block of houses with college kids and there are always parties there.

I disagree. 99% of the world are criminals in your case I guess. Anyone who has got a speeding ticket is a criminal. Jaywalkers are criminals, etc.etc.etc. The whole world is criminals.

And Yes the police hate athletes at UNL. It's been known for years.

Dictionary definition of criminal: someone who has committed (or been legally convicted of) a crime. Seems Andy is a criminal now, doesn't it? Appears you're disagreeing with a fact. So you're wrong.

And where has it ever been said that the police hate UNL athletes? Another wacky opinion? If you can show me proof of an officer in Lincoln saying "We hate athletes at UNL", I'll believe you. Please bring facts, that's all I ask.
