Yeah, no kidding. It is possible. But kind of freakish bad luck though for the him, yes? Certainly considering that a serious injury seems at least slightly more likely on the football field as opposed to off of it. Get a grip.

 
This could legitimately be dozens of different things. Until we know more we should not speculate or suggest why it happened, but hope for a speedy recovery.
