Any ideas???

I was offered a new job today! After 20 years, I am turning in my resignation to "Dr J" tomorrow. The salary is a little less, but the hours are outstanding; there are no holidays, evenings, or weekends. There are 10 days off at Christmas time that are paid. Retirement is offered too. Any ideas on writing a letter of resignation? This is going to be one of the hardest things that I've ever done, but it's an offer I can't refuse. My new boss is a HUGE Ohio St fan and has his office decorated that way. I told him I am from Nebraska and a HUGE Husker fan. He told me as long as I'm not from Michigan we "can work it out". Wish me luck and I'd appreciate any ideas for a resignation letter! Thanks

Congrats on the new position. As far as the resignation letter just be short and to the point and when you turn it in personally tell your boss what it meant to work for him/her for the last 20 years and how much you have enjoyed the chance to work for them. It will seem more from the heart than a long letter and he/she will remember it longer.

Good luck in your future

Good for you Ohiohusker. I did the same thing a few years ago. Walked away from a job I had for 20+ years, of course I am now back at that same company.

I agree with Uno, keep your letter short and to the point. The discussion you have when you hand him the letter will be much more important than what a letter says.

Good luck!

Agree. Keep it short, simple, to the point, and don't burn any bridges - as Uno said, let him know how much you appreciate the time spent there.

Well, I did it! Wasn't as bad as I thought! I kept the letter short and sweet, but damn it.....I had to cry! Only 11 more days! Thanks all!
