Any lawn experts here?

Nobody, why? I just find it pretty amusing, and sad, that someone suggests planting a yard with what is little more than an invasive weed that will happily destroy neighboring lawns. At least if we're talking in a residential area as opposed to a rural area with no imemdiate neighbors. There are just certain grasses you don't plant with neighbors near you unless you're a complete d!(k or are entirely ignorant of how certain grasses work.

Ah yes, Bermuda grass. Even more of an invasive weed than Zoysia. By all means, plant that nasty sh#t if you want it to spread into your neighbor's yard to ruin their lawns as well. Nothing like giving your neighbors the finger and giving yourself a sh#t yard.

In Oklahoma, Bermuda grass is the choice. All other grasses are weeds. It looks great when it's green and mowed but it can be a PITA keeping it out of flower beds. Fescue's, Kentucky Bluegrasses, etc., don't hold up in the Oklahoma heat.

When I was a kid, we used to play football/tackle-the-man-with-the-ball on the best/softest yards we could find. The ones with the least dog crap was always a plus too. I know, nothing to really do with the O.P.

that is not what we called it, but we did not know any better.

A lot of great advice has already been mentioned, the only thing I would add is to mow it high (3 1/2 -- 4 inches). After a handful of mowings you will notice your lawn thickening up. DON'T BAG THE CLIPPINGS! They are very good for the grass (lots of nutrients)....
So grass is canabalistic?
All plant are evil, bloodthirsty cannibals.

It's not a weed if you mean for it to be there.
