Anybody else doubting Cotton?

That almost makes sense. Almost. You act like Hicks was freakin Troy Davis when he wasn't even Darrin Davis crap he wasn't even Josh Davis maybe closer to Betty Davis. You remember the Davis brothers that were able to run the ball on crappy ISU teams against almost all the teams they faced. Hicks wouldn't have made as big a difference as you try to make it out ot be. He averaged undre 4 yards a carry when he was healthy and his senior year I believe he played against the Cupcakes and that is where he got most of his earth shattering 523 yards. Also in his coming out year the one that he played all 12 games how many of his awesome 1062 yards came against world beaters UNI, Northern Illinois, Baylor, Nebraska(2004 remember) and KSU?

You also stated throwing out the QB rushing totals, if that is the case throw out the 980 Lord had in 03 when we were playinng Barney-Ball. Imagine what are record would have been that year without those stats.

What National Championships did Redwine or IM Hipp help us win again?
Okay, now I've shown you that an injury to a key back can effect a rushing game in negative ways and that is all beyond anything a OL or OC can do...you can make all the fun you want about world beaters played by ISU in 04 but the majority of them were the same ones that the Huskers played with less success.

Now let's handle this...in singing the praises of Watson you add this in your quote for, I assume, emphasis:

Colorado’s 2004 team produced a 1,000-yard rusher and a 2,000-yard passer for just the second time in school history. In 2005, Colorado quarterback Joel Klatt re-wrote the CU record book under Watson’s guidance. Klatt finished his Buff career as the holder of 44 school records, including most career pass completions, attempts and passing yards.

But, then you tell me this:

If you can't look at the stats what can you look at? Rushing yards a game have nothing to do with the passing stats that Meyer and Blthye milked the first few years until they hit their peaks and teams figured them out.

I'm maybe missing something here but it looks to me like Barney, with his 1000-yard rusher and 2000-yard passer (with Meier rewriting the ISU record book under Barney's guidance...along with all that other crap) and Watson are pretty much equal as far as credentials are concerned...

Did Barney steal your girlfriend or something or did an ISU guy kick sand in your face cuz I'm sensing a lot of hate here.... :dunno
Watsons resume has Division titles(5 if you are counting) and a Conference Title. Barney's has well................................he helped Brett Meyer do good for 2 years.

Nope Barney didn't steal my girlfriend and no an ISU guy didn't kick sand in my face. (My dislike for everything ISU comes from the horrible fans I encountered the times that I made the trip to that wonderful staduim, not just for NU games either) I don't think he is a good coach and his resume backs up what I believe. Like I have stated a number of times if he wasn't a Nebraska guy he wouldn't have this job he wouldn't have had it the first time and would not be at any program comparable to Nebraska. dedhoarse Also people around here wouldn't be so happy to jump to his defense if he hadn't played here. Point blank end of discussion. :boxosoap

As far as Stevie Hicks being a difference maker you will never convince me that he was. I saw him play enough times to realize that Solich had it right by telling him he should be a Linebacker.

For the record my wife went to ISU and I attended some really cool parties in Ames. :wasted

Now to 04 I never once threw out the NU stats from that season or talked up that team (5-6). I was saying that Hicks got the bulk of his yards in that career year against crappy teams INCLUDING the Huskers.

And I'm spent. :moreinteresting :nanalama
That's the best news I've heard all day! :bang

We should expect perfection after two games. I mean Osborne was perfect every year he coached. Fire Cotton now, just like Osborne would have. Osborne went through coaches like Nebraska fans go through rolaids.

:sarcasm

I see improvement all over the place. Special teams I see record breaking field goals and 85 yard returns. I see more than one husker making a tackle every play more like a swarm to the ball. Coaches I hear honest takes on performance and forth right answers.

If Bo says that the O line is better than it is playing in the games, I believe him. I expect this team to be a lot better by the end of the year.

I saw a fourth quarter where Nebraska dominated and won the game by finishing strong with 21 points scored and 3 points allowed.

So after two games I've seen flashes of greatness and 2 victories. I expect to see consistancy by the end of the year. Improvement every game untill we get there.

:bonez

Let's go smash NMSU in the mouth. Se how they respond and smash them in the mouth again. :box

Weren't you the one who said that there should be no comparision between NU the like of Kansas and Mizzou, yet you want to compare a coaches time at ISU and his time during an NU rebuilding process to someone else. NU was 10-3 his first season here, and as another poster pointed out, he led a nice turn around at ISU with success and numbers that they have never had before.

I'll be the first to admit that I don't know if he is the right guy for the job, but he has to re-program 4 years of piss-poor coaching and bad habits. He is also saddled by a crappy system that Watson and Callahan ran. That can't be undone in 2 games. Give the guy a year or two. Is it an area for concern, yes. Should we boot the guy after 2 games....no.

I'm not comparing NU to ISU. I'm bringing up Barney's average track record and his lack of success. So me telling people to stop comparing NU trying to rebuild it's tradition and KU and Mizzou trying to build tradition they aren't the same thing. That was a nice try though. Also ISU had more success when Sage and Senaca(sp) were there then they did when Barney was around. I just thought I would point that out.

I'm not saying he should be fired right now, I'm saying he shouldn't have got the job in the first place. Like I have said before and I will continue to say it, if he wasn't a NU guy NOBODY would stick up for him and he wouldn't have gotten this job.

We are spoiled people...this is real life. We are dealing with kids, and young kids at that. They are going to screw up, what wouldn't be okay for me is if they weren't out there giving 100%. I think they are trying, but I also think they have a lot to learn.
:yeah

back to the Cotton issue......

all of the current linemen were recruited for a more passing offense, and have been practicing that for a long time.

a road grading, run blocking, technique has to be taught, and that is going to take time.

these linemen were the same as last year for the most part, and the running game was pretty much non-existant
DING DING DING WE HAVE OURSELVES A WINNER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

People freakin RELAX its only the second game of the season and you're acting like we lost. Ya it was a sloppy game but we WON......get over it and lets move on to the next game.

I don't get why people think these are just pass-blocking linemen.

Carl Nicks was a run blocker first. Some even said he was the best run blocker in the draft! Maybe I'm wrong, but a lot of these guys are run blockers first.

I know this is stupid, but did anyone think that maybe, just maybe they are not as talented as the past staff thought, or as talented as some here think.

Throwing in the towel on a coach after his second game seems silly to me. He can do the job or Bo would not have him here.

We have to give it time. Most new coaches do not win instantly. It takes time.

The sky is not falling due to coaching at thtis time.

I know this is stupid, but did any of the "Pro Cotton" crowd stop to think that maybe, just maybe he isn't a good coach and his track record speaks for itself.

One more time he got the job because he played at NU not because he has proven he is a good coach. Also just like Billy C bringing in Coz it has nothing to do with him being a good coach it has to do with him being Bo's buddy. Like I said before what other college team was chomping at the bit to bring him in?..................................................................................................................................Crickets

For the record I'm not throwing in the towel on a coach after 2 games. I threw the towel in on Barney a few years ago.

Geez would you just lay off the Cotton subject...........we've only PLAYED TWO GAMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is Bo's first year at Head Coach and he brought in Cotton get over it. We're 2-0 and we should be 3-0 come this Saturday and then a week off before the Virginia Tech game. Have some of you thought about Cotton using different techniques on how to block and different footwork and all of that crap. Yes the game on Saturday was scary but we WON and that's all that counts.

We still have almost a whole season to improve and stuff, some of you are acting like this is Bo's 5th, 6th, or even 7th season as Head Coach. Some of you are acting like during the offseason that we were promised to win a National Championship. We all knew that we were going to have some problems mainly our Defense but our Offense hasn't been clicking and thats probably because we are teaching them a totally new technique.

"OMG we barely beat San Jose St. or Our running game is terrible and FIRE COTTON AND BO".....really people calm down and just be happy that we are 2-0. Hell Callahan started his first two games here at 1-1 with a loss to Southern Mississippi at HOME....C'mon Southern Mississippi. I would rather have a sloppy win over San Jose St. than to lose our second home game.

Sometimes it's not always the Coaches fault but sometimes the players fault too. Some players have some mental hangovers that get in the way or they're trying to do too much or think to much. When I referee football games there's times were I think to much and then I'd get lost on what is going on out there. There is still plenty of Football to be played and we still have a couple of weeks until the Virginia Tech and Mizzou games. :rant

I'm sorry for that rant but some of you just need to relax and let the players adjust to the new coaches and lets root on our beloved Huskers for this weekend and so on :bonez :cheers

I bet it kills you to realize that Nebraska is one emergency tonsilectomy away from having Cotton as head coach doesn't it....

For the last time I'm not going off of the first 2 games with my view on Cotton's coaching. I'm not. I have stated that numerous times but I guess that gets lost in the shuffle. I have faith in Bo I don't have faith in Barney.

Cotton = Cosgrove without the success

More then you will ever know. Thanks for putting that in my head. :bang

Geesh, quit crying people. Baby steps, my friends, baby steps. Relax, I've come to grips with the fact that we won't win the National Title this season. Its OK.

Well, it is what it is people. We have Barney....I personally support him. The rest of you need to accept it, it won't be changing anytime soon, I can assure you of that.

Anyone that isn't willing to give a new coaching staff a chance and is calling for someones head on a platter evidently has a very short memory and don't remember what the last four years was like. I would like to come to your job and criticize you for a while and see how you like it...especially if I know nothing about the inner workings of your job.

It is ludicrous to think that this program is going to turn around overnight. It is going to take a few years to get back to where we were, so you either need to find some patience and give it a chance, or find another sport for a while to support and give yourself a break.
