Anyone else dropping their kids off at college?

My wife and I are currently in Tempe, dropping our youngest son off at ASU, moving him in to the dorm today. We are feeling all possible emotions, excitement for him, sadness for us, nervousness on both sides. Anybody else going through this right now too?

Which part seemed to go the fastest?

Elementary school
Middle School
High School

Here is what to focus on....

When your youngest is done with school, all of your kids should be off your payroll. My wife and I are DINKs again. We feel independently wealthy. Now we just spend money on what we want to, spoiling our grandkids!

But seriously, when kids go through the next phases of life, it is hard. Good luck!

It is amazing how much more money you have when all your kids are off hte payroll.

I loved every stage of my kid's lives....but don't want to go back. I just wish now they all lived closer.

As for how to handle it. Let them be them. Support them, but don't totally support them. Let them have skin in the game and always remember, you can't be in control of what your kids do. I have an employee right now that has been so distraught because her kid decided not to go to a 4 year school. I keep telling her, let him do what he wants to do. Going to a community college is not a bad idea. It's just different than YOUR idea. She still doesn't get it.

Right? The world needs ditch diggers! Ha

I kid, I kid. But I do find, and this is anecdotal, that kids that go to JC first tend to NOT finish up at a four-year school. Life just tends to get in the way.

Couple years ago the state of Michigan started a free community college program as long you graduated from a Michigan high school

That's a great question! It might be just because it's most recent, but high school seemed to fly by.
I think looking back on it, HS just flies by. 9th grade is just a blur and so is 12th grade. Before you know it, you are done.

With that said, I don't think elementary school gets the love it should...people tend to be very nostalgic about their HS but seem to just forget their elem school.
