We need to get to a point where every team in the West thinks they are our rival.  Iowa only is chirping now because they have won the last several games.  They may be right we are stuck in the 90's.  At least we have a decade to be stuck in.  I am waiting for the point where they hope they can beat us again.

Should it be a rivalry?  Yes.  Does it feel like one?  Not for me, but we are getting there.  We haven't gotten enough traction in the B1G yet where anyone feels like a rivalry.  I want to beat them all.  The losses suck and the wins are great.  None feel any different than the other yet.  If the winner of suckeyes and the Huskers go to the B1G championship game, then it will feel like it.

Is this some kind of well-known or documented thing? It's relatively obvious that upon the formation of the Big 12, the divisions were marked geographically, not according to some historical wishes based on the OU/Texas rivalry.
TO wanted to have the conference schedule to have one protected crossover game.

Along with every other Nebraska proposal it was voted down 11-1

Exactly.  And that was to protect the rivalry with OU.  OU...obviously....is one of the 11 that voted against it.

Eh, maybe. But I doubt that the commission would have drawn up a "Legends/Leaders" sort of a paradigm originally either way. It made sense to draw up the divisions geographically.

Pretty pointless tangent though. The original point Landlord made was well made though: OU fans have the actual "burning hatred rivalry" mentality with Texas for sure, not with us.

Not "maybe"....it was.

This is true for the Athletic Administration, but Oklahoma fans miss our rivalry. You're a regular in /r/CFB, so you know that. They love their Texas rivalry, but they miss us. A lot.

This is true. OU and NU fans have a weird respect love affair that makes everyone wish we'd get a room or a non-con series

The Nebraska and Iowa game doesn't mean anything.  When Nebraska had Oklahoma as a rival, it was because the winner usually became the Big 12 champs and might play for a national championship.  It ruined the year for the loser of that game.  When both teams are relevant - decide the division and play for championships - They could become rivals.

Iowa/Iowa State is a rival game.  Michigan/Ohio State is a rival game.  Wisconsin/Minnesota is a rival game.  Nebraska really doesn't have any rivals.  With Scott Frost coaching Nebraska to relevance - we just might find a rival in the Big Ten.

First you say our game with Iowa doesn't mean anything, then you imply that OU was our rival because the game meant something, then you say that Iowa/Iowa State is a rivalry? What meaning does that game have?

I was talking about the rivalry game, the final game of the regular season.
I actually think the Iowa game works best as the final game of the regular season, especially if played on Black Friday. It’s closer to Lincoln/Omaha and makes it easier to travel after Thanksgiving.

Why don’t we just setup Oklahoma as our thanksgiving game. They will be our premier non con every year? The Florida schools all play each other every year and are not all in the same conference

Oklahoma doesn't love us like that.

They proved that when the Big 12 was formed.
