I don't wish the kid ill and I REALLY wonder what our coaches did to piss him off so bad, but his response, well, let's just say it's not going to earn him any sympathy from NU fans.

It's like Josh Freeman. Kid decommited but wasn't man enough to talk to the coaches, he just sent a text message. It's easy for you to remain detached because he didn't decommit from your school, but Curtis's little anti-NU crusade is way uncalled for. I hope you realize that of course this is going to draw the ire of NU fans, and I don't see where we are in the wrong for being upset.

I too would really like to know what was said between CC and NU coaches, but I've been that young before and it's hard for me to imagine acting like that unless someone had really done me wrong, which to be honest I think the NU coaches did do something or say something to him to set him off like that.

Again what he did and say wasn't cool, and I understand the anger Husker fans have, BUT he is an 18 year old kid (and most teenagers do stupid things), and I would think most of the people who post here are more mature than an 18 year old kid, I could be wrong though.

There is too much BS in that post to even warrant a proper response. So I guess I will just have to ask where all of the Husker fans were after last year's beatdown in Lincoln? They were nowhere to be found especially on Tigerboard. This year before the game was even played there were but 2 people who regularly came to TB. Up until the 4th quarter there was NO ONE on TB saying anything, and in fact this very site was locked down. Then miraculously as soon as NU took the lead it was back online and everyone started showing back up on TB.

It seems that Bo thought he could stop the kid from shopping around and played hardball. Obviously it was unsuccessful and the kid was POed as was Gabbert and told our staff to stick it.

That's not to say it was the wrong approach for Bo. It just didn't have the desired effect of stopping Carter from shopping. If Bo simply wanted to tell the kid about the "Bo Doctrine" (can't take visits after commit) he could have made a phone call. They thought they could keep the kid. Didn't work out and made him angry.

And so he struck back a little bit. From what seems to have happened he didn't commit to Missouri on the week he visited and the next weekend they filled their class and he was told there would not be a spot at Missouri.

Since they seemed to want Sasser and some Dbacks from Illinois that I'd never heard of more than Carter, and since LSU never offered Carter after losing their WR to Texas, I'm not sure how big a talent he was. But obviously our approach didn't have the effect Bo wanted. Perhaps his public announcement of the "Bo Doctrine" would have been better given at the time of visits than by an in home visit when the recruit has scheduled more visits.

We were close to having a 1 loss season with Bo in his second year. Bo has a plan and we are a full year away from seeing his recruits shape and mold the future of this program.

This is crazy, exciting stuff. It blows my mind MU fans would be on here commenting on anything. I have no desire to even go on a MU board. I was trying to go on WVU board to see if I could get any info on Heard and sure enough he decommitted before I could find anything.

And you can bet once he simmers down, like every other coach he will try to pressure really good kids to orally commit to us. And my guess is that in most cases rather than trying the hardball that didn't work this time, he will watch the kid take a visit and see if he won't stay committed. Very few schools can play "take it or leave it" with kids that have several offers. Bo was simply angry and came out with this speel after intimidation didn't work on either player. I don't blame him. I would hate to have the job of recruiting teenage kids. please offer proof that this policy was new, since you are the one making disparaging accusations (about the coach of the team you purport to support). just because you only read about it in an article recently does not means it's new, it just means those that complain about recruiting often either don't have all of the facts or don't understand them.

I'm sorry but being a fan doesn't mean you check your common sense at the door. Bo's policy about not allowing recruits once orally committted to take an official visit to another school was said the week after Cater decommitted and visited Missouri and a week and a half after they met with Gabbert and he decommitted. Now you can believe that they sent a coach all the way to La. to tell Carter the same thing that you claim he was told before --that he couldn't visit another program, but you can do that on the phone. It is obvious to any thinking person that they thought they could play hardball and get Carter to not take other visits. It obviously ticked the kid off and he decommitted on the spot. Now we can say we told him we didn't want him or he wasn't good enough or whatever you please, but logic dictates what went on.

Will such a policy work in the future? It will if you are a top 5 program nationally and you have 4 and 5* players anxious to jump aboard and a 3 star player is wanting to go look around.. It will work with kids for whom you are the top program by far that wants them--ie a two star kid. But kids in demand will not be intimidated by any school in the north if they decide for whatever reason they ought to check out another school.

He tried it. That policy he announced after the fact? It is as flexible as a hooker when she sees a wallet full of dead presidents. Bo is new to having the final say on how to handle recruiting. It is hard to put up with some of the things that these kids will do, but Bo will find like all other coaches that kids will sometimes decide they ought to check out another school before signing day. It's aggravating but NU currently is in no position to twist arms of desireable recruits. He will play the game better when he's been a HC 10 years instead of 2.

Bo's policy was not new as of now. If you paid attention that is what Curtis said the policy was from day one with him when he committed to Nebraska. He said that he was told by the coaching staff to take his time because once he committed to NU (if he did) they didnt want him taking other visits.

You make it sound like you know EXACTLY what ALL of these kids are thinking. The same policy got us Cody Green and Rex Burkhead last year and they were pretty heavily recruited werent they??

With your Aaron Green comment- if he is up front with the coaching staff about all of the visits he is taking then they wont tell him to commit on the spot.

as to carter, the fact that we sent the coaches down shows that we still wanted him to come to NU (and i would guess that we'd still take him if he hadn't made disparaging public comments after he decommitted). telling him that he would no longer be considered a commit if he visited elsewhere is hardly intimidation. it's explaining that words have meaning and actions have consequences.

as i stated before, i will wait for you to let me know the first time we have a commit visit elsewhere that is still considered a "commit" by the coaching staff. until that time, i will assume that bo will continue to be a man of his word and expect commits to be as well.

for that matter, if this is such a new policy, i'm sure it won't be hard for you to find at least one example of a commit of ours visiting elsewhere and still being treated like a commit by the coaching staff (as opposed to being just another recruit). this is bo's third recruiting class. surely it's happened by now, right?

as to whether this "doctrine" will work, i think we've done fine in recruiting and will continue to. more importantly, this "doctrine" helps to build a winning culture of trust. let me know when we start having losing seasons due to this staff's failures at recruiting. (you do know that the entire point is winning games, right? just making sure, as your handle reminds me of a coach we had once whose tenure was defined by meaningless recruiting victories and real losing seasons.)
