Athletic Dept. balances budget with $0 of university money

Anyone know how much the BTN is currently worth to the member organizations?

(Nice to have a network people actually WANT to watch...take note, LHN!)
How is the LHN doing anyways? I havn't heard anything for over a year...
Here was a quote from DirectTV a while back regarding the program:

DirecTV issued the following statement: "We've had discussions with ESPN about Longhorn Network, but we have no plans right now to carry it. We understand Longhorn has other programming that may be of value to a small segment of our customers, but two UT football games do not constitute a network. We're happy to carry those two games under the considerable fees we already pay ESPN for programming that includes the Big 12. Given the dynamic situation in college football conferences today, we'll wait and see how it all shakes out before we decide what we will or won't carry."

Hop on their FB page and you get and idea or where they are currently (not to unlike where Nebraska was last year...and that deal ended up getting done):

"Well, football season is just around the corner and LHN still has no carriage deals with any of the major television providers, either satellite or cable. What on earth is the deal folks? Oh yeah, it is the deal you're trying to strike with providers but none of them are signing. The real losers in this (along with the hundreds of millions you have on the line) are us fans. A simple question, if a network can't be seen, does it really exist?"

"Hey LHN I just saw that 3 football games are going to be on your network that no one can watch. Get a deal done and stop alienating horn fans"Or

For some reason I cant find it, but does anyone have a link to the top 10 and how much they made?

The fully vested B1G schools recently got a $24 million payout. How much did Nebraska get? Also, what fiscal period was the payout determined? For example if calendar year 2011 (and it took them 4+ months to close the books & process the payments), Nebraska was only a member for half the year. If that is the case, Nebraska's payout for calendar year 2012 will be twice as much (full year member plus I assume their "percentage" increases a little each year until 2017).

I'm sure it's about the most complicated thing you could ever imagine. We were a member for the full football season - and that's where the vast majority of the revenue comes from.

It's been a while since I've seen the list, but I know the last time I checked, I think less than 20 (and I'm thinking it was around 13) of the programs that carry FBS football programs broke even or made money. The rest lost. I'll see if I can find it. Interesting stuff, and gives you the idea of the kind of company we're able to keep in bringing in finances to the school and managing costs.

Two different articles, the first from 6/11 and the second from 6/10, showing in two consecutive years, 14 and 22 schools, respectively, earned more than they spent. I found it interesting in the second article that of the four/five schools in Alabama, only Alabama actually made money. Even a program like Auburn, in that report, was breaking even or losing money. Interesting stuff, and I'm sure with a little more digging, somebody can find the actual schools. I know I've found it before, but my time is limited right now. Might try and dig for it later.
