B1G Week 1

SDU gave the Huskers a hard time when T-Mart was a freshman. Nebraska won, but I don’t remember the score. But if Minnesota is supposed to be a player in the West, they didn’t show it tonight.

17-3 in 2010.  59-20 in 2013 with freshman Tommy Armstrong starting his first game.  Neither of those outcomes really means much in the context of 2019 of course.  Minny looked average.  Just 1 game, but. . .we'll see.

And in neither were we outgained on the ground. SDSU was better than Minnesota by 2 yards per play rushing.
Wow. Didn't check the stats but that is significant. I'd be less worried about a close call with SDSU if the offense was struggling. Usually in a first game against a lesser opponent, rust shows on the offense. Getting gashed on the ground isn't really rust...

Gophers looked very, very slow.  They have not recruited well at the QB position in quite some time.  I think Gophers fans should be very concerned about year 3 under Fleck looking like this in game 1 regardless of who the opponent is.

The Gophers, like everyone else, will probably improve quite a bit from this week to next, but there's not much they can do to fix S&C over the course of the season.

As several people mentioned, SDSU pushed Minnesota around on both lines. That does not bode well for the Gophers heading into Big Ten play.

Wisconsin and MSU both looking good. Should be a good year for the B1G. USF and Tulsa aren't terrible teams by any means.

Purdue dominates 3 1/2 quarters, but sloppy play and turnovers come back to bite them in the end. Nevada kicks a 56 yard field goal to win.

Purdue seems really talented and also really mistake prone. A lot like Nebraska in 2011. Can’t get out of their own way to dominate.

They’re really young. That said, Sindelar made some very questionable decisions. I still don’t think he sees the end of the season. If you’re going to lose games by playing youth, you might as well develop a QB doing it.
