Bands that should not have been as big as they are or were

Rammstein. Why is Rammstein so popular in the US among people who don't even speak German? At my high school, Rammstein was the second coming of Jesus among the closet racist kids.
I'm not racist and I like them. I also speak very little German.

Reise, Reise is probably one of my favs.
Just to be clear, I wasn't implying that Rammstein fans are all racists, I was just saying that the closet racist kids in high school really liked Rammstein.

Sorry about that. I probably should have worded it a little differently.

I don't get the racist following though. None of their music has any racist overtones.

Guess it's just the German thing.

I would have to say it's probably the connection with Germany.

I can't stand AC/DC because it all sounds the same. The more I actually learn to play guitar, the more contempt I have for the band. All of their songs are 3 chords, which in and of itself is not an issue, as most songs are 3 chords. The problem is their entire body of work is the same 3 chords.

To me Rush has two very good musicians in Peart and Lee, but I can't stand Lee's voice, and the guitar parts don't do a damned thing for me.

The Chili Peppers have always been a hit and miss band for me. Each album has about 3 songs I really like a lot, and the rest is just meh.

Megadeath is another one that I just don't get the long running appeal of.

AC/DC is the greatest live performance you can see. Angus is simply amazing to watch live. I have been a fan since 1977 when I seen them open for Cheap Trick and their songs do not all sound the same. I think you are believing that, because no one sounds like them, no one. Krokus was close, but didn't last. I guess when you are a fan of a group, you really don't think that ALL of their songs sound the same, although some are similar. Actually, there aren't many bands out there that their songs don't sound similar, um, maybe because its their sound?

Anyway, not to rant, but they sure did make a lot of money and garnered millions and millions of fans world wide, for playing those same 3 chords. Take a look at any of their live DVD's and wonder how 250,000 people could be wrong. 40+ years of Rock-N-Roll.

ZZ Top is another that plays 3 chords, and they sound pretty damn good too.

AC/DC has more in common with Nickleback than ZZ Top. Lots of sales, lots of fans. Absolutely no musical evolution. Even Angus has said, granted half jokingly, that all they do is change the album covers for their discs.

I'm getting more into actual song composition, which is not something most people ever think about when listening to a song. And If you read all the sentences, most songs are made of 3 chords, when you get into songs that are made from say, 5, you are getting into Prog. My beef is they always use the same 3. They don't mix it up, and the drummer is such a sorry excuse for one....

I have a CD collection that has more than 600 discs. A few, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, TOOL, APC, Offspring, Stone Sour, Deftones, Zeppelin, BOC, Metallica, Disturbed, Machine Head, Mastodon, Mushroomhead, Slipknot, Jimmy Hendrix, Heart, Halestorm, Lacuna Coil, White Zombie, Thrice, I could go on.....

I actually like Nirvana, I just don't think they should have been as popular. There was definitely better stuff at the time. Another one that I actually like, but I don't think they should be as popular is The Offspring.
