OWH

LINCOLN - Lower your expectations far enough, and you'll eventually bump into them.

Proof of that came Saturday with Nebraska's 34-20 football victory over Missouri.

Don't we still have a chance at all of our main goals. Winning the North, winning the conference, playing in the BCS. The only thing that is out of reach is the National Championship and I don't know if that was a realistic goal this year for the team.

yeah, he's a tool, douchebag, your choice. I never liked him or his articles for that matter. I'll stick to reading Tom Shatel's pieces

Vomitneck is a toolbag. He'll always have something bad to say about the Huskers and put a negative spin on anything as long as he has a job writing for the OWH. I have come to expect it from him.

Ths transition is going to take longer than what some fans were hoping. We still need more talent and more deph. (Injuries on defense have really hurt us.) Let's make our final judgment in year five. If we haven't made significant improvement by then, then we can assume things aren't going to get any better and it would be time to look elsewhere. Until then, Go Big Red!

I honestly don't know how this guy still has a job. Does he have a relative in a high place at the OWH?

I don't want someone who is always going to talk up the Huskers, but damn man, the guy is relentless in his hate of the Huskers. He's either writing about the purple, the tigers or the cyclones, or writing about how bad the Huskers are. He really needs to go write for some paper in Manhattan, Columbia or Ames. The article you are reffering two was overflowing with cynacism and sheer hate.

kind of the like the typical naysayers on this board who posts "OMG CALLAHAN HAS RUINED NEBRASKA FOOTBALL FOREVAH!!!1!11!". A whole lot of anger, recriminations, blame and not a whole lot of ideas.

besides, "fire callahan," of course. that's always a crowd pleaser.

yah, firing callahan after three years is a *brilliant* plan. nothing like tacking on three or four more years of reconstruction on top of the three we've already had. and anyone who is everyone would beat a path to nebraska's door knowing if they don't win yesterday, they'll be out of a job by season three.

flip, switch, swap and repeat: keep on firing unitl you find that one magical coach who can win everything with what they got (like stoops walking into a post-blake sooner's stable). as this goes on, weasels like barfknecht whine and b!^@h about how far their nebraska football has fallen while *somehow* being blind to the fact that they're adding to the instablity of the program while going thru coaches like paris hilton going thru shoes.

barfknecht is that guy that sits behind you at the football game and bitches no-stop about how much nebraska sucks, callahan sucks, taylor sucks and god why oh why didn't we get Urban Myer or Dan Hawkins or Charlie Weis and man the dirnks are so expensive here that's another reason i hate pederson blah blah blah BLAH.

he's the type of guy who just can't be happy unless he's not pissed you off. exersise you first amendment right: ignore him.

you'll be a whole lot happier if you do.

ewww! Not Hawkins!

Barf-boy has always had an anti-Nebraska agenda. That is why they usually send him off to cover the other Big XII teams.

Good thing he doesn't have a vote in the writer's poll any more.

The worst thing NU could become is a coaching carousel. You wanna talk about the quickest way to go into a deep, deep hole? That's it.

We may not like how he said it, but can anyone really argue with what he said?
Hell yea, you can. In unfathomable to me how people dismiss winning the North as a goal for this team. Not only a goal, but a stepping stone for a rebuilding program.

The North, while isn't much in terms of beating a bunch of quality teams, is absolutely necessary for Nebraska. You can't get anywhere without winning your division first. It's the first step in getting back to the Big XII game and maybe into the BCS in the coming years.

Nebraska isn't going to magically jump into the top 10 without getting into big games and winning them. They aren't going to get into the Top 10 without winning the North. It just doesn't work in the Big XII. It does somehow work if you are Notre Dame. :hmmm

Texas was one of those big games this year, the Big XII game will hopefully be another one.

I agree....I think that Nebraska will get better and they have to set goals to get there. Win Big XII North, win Big XII Championship then win BCS Bowl Game. Would people be happier if we didn't win the North and were just another team in the pile of the North...I don't think so. We shouldn't be totally satisfied with just winning the North...but we need it to get anywhere else! :restore

Do fat dogs fart? Yes, you can argue with what he said. Since the north is not very good, once again, then Nebraska shouldn't strive to win it? That is ridiculous. Nebraska could end up winning the division by 2 games.

I like how he has everything skewed to his liking. Bob Stoops was high on talent when he came in here. He shot onto the scene and has been solid ever since, but has fizzled out lately while his own crop of players he recruited took hold.

Mack Brown inherited a Texas team that was high on talent as well that had won a Big 12 championship in 96. He had a Heisman trophy winner in 98 and a coach on the field at QB. 1998 record = 8-4.

USC had all the ingredients for the offense that Carroll wanted and it still took him one tremendously mediocre season plus 3 games for it to take hold.

Neither of these teams went through the change in offensive shemes that NU went through also. Stoops started off with a little more spread since Leach and Mangino were running the offense at first and then they have kind of balanced out. Before, there was no real offensive identity. USC had the WCO in place, but apparently Carroll came in with an offense that was similar in concepts, but dumbed down and it took off eventually.
