Barf's Picks for BIG10....

Barfknecht has Michigan St. as numero 1, with Michgan and Wisconsin trailing shortly behind. He doen't give any plausible reasons as to how Michigan St. is going to put up points on offense, only stating that their offense will be "the league's less quaterback-eccentric" attack (Barf, Big Red Today). He also adds that Michigan St. will be fielding coach Dantonio's best offensive line in 6 years. Now, while I agree that great offensive and defensive lines are the foundation to being a great team, he forgets to mention that Michigan St. had a poor run offense last year in the BIG10, with Levon Bell finishing 8th in the league. I don't see Michigan St. sneaking into the BIG10 championship game this year without a solid QB and new/un-tested WR's...we'll see. Maybe they have a few good ones that were waiting in line as 2nd stringers....

Once again, another writer talking up the Spartans this year, expecting big things without mentioning a solid reason as to how this Spartan team is going to put up points against other good defenses.

i see 2012 msu as 2010 nu. it will be interesting.

in unrelated news, i am starting to buy high on nu this year.

Same here...they will struggle on offense and rely heavily on their defense. They did lose what's his face on the defensive line as well. I see them losing 3 games, if they drop any less, I consider them lucky.

Everyone is picking MSU and I mean everyone. Good, every time MSU is supposed to take that next step it seems they take a step back. All of a sudden we are supposed to believe that they will just reload on offense? An offense we completely shut down anyways. Good luck to them but I just don't see it.

Big !0 Network chimes in the same, all three.
OUCH !!! BTN chimes in and it's the Kiss of Death for Sparty! In all honestly, this should be an exciting season ahead for our Legends Div. With UMich, NEB and Sparty trying to dismember each other for a spot in Indy against Wisc. Is anyone truly 'elite' in the B1G right now??? Nope!!! Just 5 solid teams (NEB, UMich, MSU, Wisc. and tOSU) and a couple like Iowa and Purdue making some noise along the way this year. MSU will never just 'reload'... we never get a boatload of 4* or 5* freshman (I think Will G. was one of the few 5*'s to be recruited in recent memory)... the key is development of talent, something MSU has been very good at in recent years under Dantonio and his staff.

It seems the scheduling gods certainly are not playing any favors to you, UMich or MSU with all of us having some brutal stretches ahead in conference play. Good Luck! to the Huskers, and let's start putting the B1G back into NC contention this year!

This seems to happen every year, sports writers think they'll play it safe and pick the teams that won it last season. Well it doesn't work like that, we can focus on the former champions and give all sorts of reasons that they'll be successfull but "the enemy has a vote too" as the saying in military planning goes. It's not as if last years less successfull teams aren't looking at ways to improve or developing players. I'm going to go out on the record and say that MSU will not repeat as division champs and UW won't repeat at the B1G CG. I also don't think LSU will win the SEC.

Did you know that Wisconsin has won every single Big Ten championship game in conference history? #dominance

This. I don't see any Big 10 teams going into the championship game undefeated. I also agree with there not being any elite teams. I'm almost fearful just how far away from an elite team the conference has when Michigan plays Bama this weekend. Where we probably differ is where the teams fall in the division. I'm of the opinion the division will either be won by Michigan or Nebraska because of the experience on the offensive side of the ball. If we're to believe Nebraska is headed in the right direction, it's high time for Martinez to strap it on and carry this team to dominance. I'm not expecting a NC this year, but we've got to see Nebraska impose their will this year.

Alabama beat our 5th best team by 16 points last year. They did pretty much dominate them, but again, it was Penn State.
