Battle for the Carries that AA Leaves Behind

Sounds like there were quite a few plays run with more than one RB on the field.

Sounds like Newby could make the kind of jump AA did between his frosh and soph seasons. Excited to see what he and Taylor bring to the table, Would like to see us moving guys around some and playing with formations to get them on the field more together.

I just hope Our QB will be good enough to let the coaches take care of the whole field. We have so much talent I hope they will be patient and take their carries or passes as they come, a really good problem to have I guess. I am sure it will give the coaches some gray hairs but ones they should like. I am really looking forward to seeing Adam Taylor most of all, all you hear is good things about the guy elite talent and all.

This is a tricky situation. Ameer made his "jump" because Burkhead got hurt. So unless he gets hurt, I am not sure Newby will make the same jump. Not with a potential Heisman campaign on the line.

he'll get his shot early in the season. I don't expect AA to get more than 12-15 carries in any of the first 5 weeks.

Depending on the defense, you may be right. But there is still Cross and Adam Taylor to think about.

I am not sure I agree here. IMO, he will get 12-15 carries against Miami and possibly Fresno State.

I think he gets his shot though. For some reason this staff must see something in Newby in practices that we don't see in games. That guy is a fumble machine IMO. And he couldn't catch a 3 yard pass out of the backfield to save his life. I'm all for 2-3 being Cross/Taylor.

Same things we heard from when Ameer was a Freshman.........He was a freshman, fumbled 3 times....Cross fumbled 3 times and Ameer 5 but I know they had more carries (and experience). Plus that fumble on that pitch from TA vs. MichSt I have argued on here before that TA should be held more responsible for. It's not just the coaches that are seeing it from Newby, Ameer can't keep quiet about the kid, just raves about him.

I think he averages about 15-20 in the non-con, with a normal load against Miami and Fresno St. I don't see how he can get near the 2K he wants to shoot for without a moderate to normal load for 1/3 of the season.
