Baylor, NU and the future

Its much easier for Briles to recruit his type of Offense in and from Texas. They Have 14 kids from outside of Texas on that team. Now if NEB were in Texas they to could prob get that talent to run and Offense like that.

Nebraska could learn from Stanford.

Once you get a little momentum (e.g., someone like RGIII to show up on campus), it gets a lot easier in a hurry when you have that many recruits so close to home. They currently have 22 commits forming the #23 class for 2014. Exactly one of them is NOT from Texas. Last year they signed 22 recruits - two were not from Texas. Their 2012 class had 23 signees - one was not from Texas. There is a pattern there somewhere.

So Baylor being Baylor and Nebraska being Nebraska. Does it make Art Briles a better coach for doing what he's done at Baylor? Or Bo a better coach for doing what he's done at Nebraska? I've always liked the guys who overachieved with less instead of underachieving with more. So in other words, Baylor is a recruiting and facilities GOD in the college football world.

I don't really buy that it's easier to recruit to Baylor than nebraska. Or at least it wasn't when briles took over. I mean at what point so we just build a stadium in Texas, move the team there and let the kids get credits at a nearby university an just fly the fans in for the games bc its apparently so impossible to get anyone to play here? Yeah I understand they get to recruit in their own backyard but it's Baylor. Do you remember what Baylor was for years and years? Do you remember seeing their "stadium" filled with 90pct husker fans? Briles has done an amazing job. I didn't think I'd ever see them be anything more than they were with rg3.

I just heard confirmation from a reliable source that Nebraska is officially becoming a Private Baptist school in an attempt to mirror Baylors on field and recruiting success.

I think Art Briles is a very good coach and he is going to do some great things. But I have to say that he took over a broken program at the same time as Bo did. His record:

4-8

4-8

7-6

10-3

8-5

8-0 so far.

Please raise your hand if you think he would have lasted as Nebraska's head coach with 30 losses in his first 5 years and 2 of those seasons being losing seasons. Briles has only lost less than 4 games in his collegiate career 1 time. He is on pace to do it again but let's be honest. If we are unhappy with a coach taking over a program with 20 losses in 5 years, what would we have said about Briles?
Baylor and Nebraska can not be compared in the win loss terms like that. Before that 7-6 campaign the last bowl game Baylor went to was in 1994. You can't get more apples and oranges than that.

But comparing now, Baylor is easily the better football team. Which is beyond inexcusable.

I don't want to hear the crap about Baylor being in Texas. They are still Baylor, and before Briles they were what? At best the 5th option in the state of Texas? The simple fact is Briles has an emphasis on recruiting, and an ability to convince kids, that vastly exceeds anyone on the Nebraska Staff right now. There is a a clear vision and method to everything. Pelini is a hodgepodge. No identity.

Baylor is still, even now, no better than 3rd banana in the state. Texas and A&M will always be above them. OU and OSU hit Texas hard. This is a just a cop out for people looking for an excuse why players somehow dont end up in Nebraska. They still do not tend to land the top end talent that we want. Callahan got a highly ranked class in here, Zook got a top 10 class to go to Illinois. Its a cop out, and stop accepting it.

People need to get over this notion that Baylor is Baylor and should suck always and that Nebraska is Nebraska and should be good always. Things change all the time in the world and sports is NO different. It gets old seeing the entitlement issues some have just because we are " Nebraska". Look at Oklahoma thru the late 90's or USC thru the same time period. Every team has a period in time where they struggle or don't meet expectations or even over exceed their expectations for a period of time.

One of the winningest programs in college football history, where 5 national championship trophies are placed amongst hundreds of other trophies on the west side of their stadium, has too many disadvantages getting players to come here. Yes, we have it so bad.

What's worse, is that these so called recruiting gurus haven't given any thought to the fact that the amount of players with incredible talent has gone through the roof. There weren't nearly as many football players to choose from in the days when this program was being built. Now there is talent everywhere.

Enough with that nonsense.

Hey everybody, on a minor side note (minor). Nebraska plays Michigan tomorrow to keep our chances at a CC game alive. Should be a helluva game. That's a good football team, well coached, we just didn't execute at the end if the day. Some minor adjustments, can be fixed. GBR.

Baylor used to be Baylor.. Now they are are 8-0 program thats got pretty good talent and a good coach. I am willing to bet Baylor have better over all talent then we do. Noone wants to accept that simply due to the fact that they are Baylor.

We don't accept the fact that has to be that way. Again, all due respect to what Baylor has done - It has been 14 years since NU has won a conf championship - we have all of the resources to land good recruits. BC had good recruits but he was their down fall or should I say his stubbornness not to fire his DC - sounding too familiar (loyalty and living wt inexperienced DC and OC)
