The slow it down, control the clock, limit turnovers/3 & out style still works and will always work. Look at Alabama. Combine a ball control offense to with a good/great D and you're going to win a lot of ballgames. Also, look at Wisconsin, the reigning three time Big Ten champ and team that has embarrassed NU 2 of the 3 times they have played.

It doesnt matter what gimicks come around, how many receivers you can spread out, how funky you can make your punt formations look, or how blinding you make your helmets. Football always has, is, always will be about blocking and tackling.

Size is not the key. Speed is more important. Yes, Alabama is big, but they are also fast. Big, slow linemen are easy to run around. Just look at what happened to Nebraska all those years vs the Florida schools in the Orange bowl. The national championships didnt show up until the speed did.
