Corey McKeon ready for big things in ‘06
Simply put, Nebraska Cornhuskers linebacker Corey McKeon was a beast this past season. He was by far the most dominant player on the Cornhuskers’ stop unit and made his presence felt early and often in virtually every game.
A quick look at his stat line helps paint the picture in an even clearer fashion. McKeon led the team in tackles with 98. He also somehow managed to lead the team in interceptions with three and was second in the sack department with seven, trailing only sack master Adam Carriker who finished the season with 9.5. McKeon also managed to get four quarterback hurries, five passes defended and one forced fumble.
But perhaps the scariest thing of all is the fact that Corey McKeon was only a sophomore in 2005. The 6-1 225 phenom out of Naperville, IL is just now getting the hang of major division I football after being redshirted and 2003 and seeing very little game action in 2004 (although he did manage to snag an interception against Missouri in the first game of that season).
Now that McKeon is a seasoned veteran of sorts, he could very well put up the kind of numbers that are worthy of All American honors, but more importantly, his presence both on and off the football field should help propel the Nebraska Cornhuskers back into national prominence.
