Best NU QB to NEVER run the Option

One problem with running the two lists as a dichotomy like this is we get a sense of who the best QBs in program history are but we leave out an extremely important QB: Brook Berringer. 

The 95 Huskers are often regarded as the best college football team of all time and Tommie Frazier is often regarded as the best QB in school history. Berringer was so good in 94 heading into 95 that Nebraska started the season splitting reps at QB. There was a legitimate QB battle that spring. He challenged Frazier that hard in an offense that clearly played more to Frazier's strengths. What it did was make Frazier a better QB. Berringer was a far better passer and had such command of the offense he could overcome not being the playmaker as a runner. Frazier had to show he could be as effective as a passer, his weakness, as Berringer was a runner. 

I'm not posting this to claim Berringer was the greatest Husker QB of all time. I am posting it to claim he's one of the most important, at least enough to have a place on the list.

Yes, all very true and valid points.  Tommie was already a determined and skilled QB as reflected of his performance in 92-93 (orange bowl MVP in a losing effort) But Brook made Tommie better - esp as you noted in pushing him in 95.  Glad Tom had the wisdom to allow the QB competition to continue as it did.  Without Brook in 94 there would not have been a NC.  Yes, Tommie came in and finished off Miami but Brook got us there.   Unfortunately, as a back up, Brook didn't have the huge #s to compare but if we could see from his  performance in 1994 that he could have led well with the team of 1995 -   maybe not as well wt Tommie as the QB but Brook could have led that team to a NC as well.

Our TE's were absolutely lethal with Berringer under center.
