Better Fanbases than Nebraska

I remember getting into this "we really are the best fans" argument years ago. I feel foolish for advocating that now - not because we are or aren't, but because speculating on something like this is really crass.

Believe me, I get carlfense's point in the OP. We do some pretty special things as Husker fans. But being called the "Greatest" fans is like being called the world's greatest boss, or the world's greatest dad. It just means your employees or your kids love you. Our school and our teams appreciate us - but we're not "better" than anyone else. While it's been perpetuated that we're "the greatest fans in college football," only truly conceited and self-centered prigs actually believe that. And that's the vast, vast minority among our fans.

I agree with this.

But I would like to know from all the people who think this fan base is sooo hooorrible, which fan bases should we start trying to emulate?

Who is saying the fan base is sooo hooorrible?

I won't name any names. I'm not going to call anyone out.

But one example would be comments like:

Most delusional AND spoiled fan base in college football.

Personally I don't think there are any other fan bases than Nebraska. When you look at it from a complete athletics standpoint, I don't think there is another school out there that is better.

There might be some equal but not better.

We've never, ever been tested like OU has I would say.

2002 was a bad year, the first after a long run. BC's first year in 2004 was a struggle of a transition; most understood it as such. 2007 was a meltdown of a season and we saw the fanbase get tested then. That's it. In between we had pretty solid seasons and a lot of reason to get our hopes up. I don't think we have ever seen sustained status like OU or USC in the 90s.
Yea, the records are as bad but it has been 14 years since we've won anything of worth - that for a top program can be just as hard on the fan base - no we didn't go 0-11 but based on where we were prior to the drought it is still a big test.

Who is saying the fan base is sooo hooorrible?
The head coach of the Nebraska Cornhuskers, for one.
As I stated in another thread, I think this is overblown. Yes, he said "all" but that could very easily mean all the fans that left and/or all the fans that were booing.
Other than his own words . . . repeatedly stated . . . that's plausible.

He didn't single out fair weather fans. He said the opposite. He said that our crowd was a bunch of fair weather fans and that they could all kiss his . . . butt. Then he proceeded to imply that we'd be screwed without him.
