Unfortunately these things are likely to be challenged in court, just like under Trump, and years of judicial rulings will cause this to be inconsistently enforced, difficult to implement in practice, and work around to comply with a judges ruling will lead to ever more lawsuits. They need to pass a law to address this: but Republican leadership doesn't want that. 

This is being done to win over the median American voter, who wants tough immigration (but doesn't want members of their community deported). 

Is there any reason for these tapes to not be released other than it’s not good for Joe?

I don't think it's a wrong for them to worry, because frankly people are woefully unequipped to handle a world with AI deepfakes. Particularly Trump supporters who believe in every conspiracy thrown their way. 

My counter argument is... eventually AI deepfakes are going to be the norm. Voters are going to be bombarded with an avalanche of faked videos they cannot handle... we can't hide audio or video clips forever. 

Which is weird, because we know Republicans would never pull shenanigans like that.

The honest, law and order party? Hell no. These people are notorious straight shooters - willing to put country over party. Next you're going to tell me they're willing to toss hundreds of years of our democratic traditions to gain favor for the world's dumbest politician. Get real Knapp.

This is a legit worry. While the fear of deep fakes is a problem, avoiding the release of audio or video is also problematic.

You know there's a difference between a deep fake/AI generated audio or visual clip, and what you're describing, right? 

Nevermind the faux outrage over Trumps-Russia connections, you seem to think a deepfake is the same thing. Which is exactly why conservatives are completely and utterly incapable of handling deepfakes.

Yes, as I assume you know generating deepfakes and posting info from the discredited Steele Dossier and the discredited Adam Schiff are both Shenanigans which is what my post said.  It was a specifically chosen word.  You do know that, right.

That was my first thought too, but if you didn't have anything extremely valuable on you and they have the jump on you, what's the point of fighting back and potentially dieing?

Actually, I thought about that. And, someone trained as much as they are, they probably can’t just pull out their gun and blow someone away without it being a threat to the president or someone else. Can’t really shoot the piece of s#!t in the back running away. So, you give them your wallet with $100 and spend the next 4 hours calling your CC companies cancelling them. I’m sure he doesn’t have a problem getting a new drivers license. 
 

So, yeah, the ridicule from friends is way worse. 
 

If he was on duty, a little surprised there wasn’t video. But, there are probably multiple guys a long ways away from the president.
