Big 12 Defense Rankings

Walk-on
Well, here's my simplistic take on the Big 12's Defense ranking after 4 games, or in some cases 3:

TEAM PTS ALL GAMES PLAYED

Oklahoma 14 3

Nebraska 28 4

Kansas 54 4

Texas A&M 55 3

Texas 61 4

Missouri 62 4

Baylor 64 3

Kansas State 64 4

Iowa St 76 4

Colorado 77 3

Oklahoma St 85 4

Texas Tech 86 4

Yeah I know, this doesn't account for yard allowed, etc, but it does say a lot I think. Nebraska's D looks pretty darn good that's for sure. Watch out for the Sooners though.....

The D played awesome!! No hangover from VT! The boys responded well... and I think we roll from here on out... but I am watching for those SUH-ners.

Total defense is important as far as field position goes, but the thing that really counts is scoring defense. The Huskers are allowing just seven points per game. Yeah, three of those teams were against Sun Belt competition, but other Big 12 teams didn't play much better competition.

The D looked good, even when when Asante and Amukamara were out.

To put those scoring defense numbers in a little more perspective, here are the Big 12 ranks in SOS (Sagarin) and scoring defense (NCAA stats):

Code:
Team SOS	SDEF
Texas Tech 57 46
Nebraska 78 3
Oklahoma 81 1
Colorado 87 77
Missouri 91 25
Baylor 94 45
Texas 101	23
Oklahoma St.	104	44
Iowa State 113	36
Kansas St. 118	26
Kansas 150	14
Texas A&M 177	34
According to these numbers, Oklahoma and Nebraska have the early lead in "best Big 12 defense" bragging rights. Teams in the North should be ranked higher based on the weaker competition they've played, but they're giving up plenty of points to weak teams. When they start Big 12 play with all of these high-powered offenses, look to see those scoring defense numbers plummet.
