Big 12 Stats thru week 2

The reason OU's QB that started Saturday didn't take any snaps last year during games was because he was redshirted. It's kind of like asking why didn't Frost take any snaps when Frazier and Berringer were seniors and we were blasting people?

In all acutallity, OU's recruiting class 2 years ago and NU's recruiting class of this year can easily be compared. OU got the best rated RB in the nation last year, and NU got the best rated RB in the nation this year. OU's QB last year was rated in the top 3 in the nation last year, NU's QB was rated in the top 3 in the nation this year.

OU's biggest mistake is not recruiting a QB sooner that could have come in as a 3 year sophomore or 4 year junior. In NU decides to start Beck next year, we could easily see the same kind of performance this early in the season.

However, recruiting QB's in college is about like drafting QB's in the NFL. There are a lot of highly touted recruits in both that just don't pan out. Typically, RB's are a lot more predictable barring injury. And yes, there have been plenty of RB's that didn't pan out. I don't know whether OU's QB will pan out, and none of us know whether or not Beck will pan out. However, I will say give me a Marcus Vick; Vince Young, or Brad Smith anyday over what we and OU have now. The QB needs to be able to move around in and out of the pocket. Having a tree back there has probably cost OU two consecutive NC's.

I remember that OU QB - Rhett Bomar was a GREAT high school prospect. Supposedly OU's future leader. What happened? Could it be that high school greats don't always work out?

We should learn from this - recruit a "great" QB every year and maybe 1 in 3 will develop.

As for the stats - I don't think we will know how good NU is till after the ISU game. Pitt has fallen flat on its face for the first 2 games and probably won't be a good test. The Cyclones dominated a good Iowa team. Don't believe we should look past the next game, but I'm frankly much more worried about ISU than Pitt.

GBR!

Sounds like maybe redshirting him might have been the mistake.

Tech's offense? You are joking right? Tech's offense is unwatchable.
i dont like watching an offense that runs up 70 on us either, but as everyone says about the WCO "you can argue with sucess" personally i find the WCO quite boring at most times. i like seeing LB's getting decimated by FB's and TB's and TE's running over DB's and things of that nature when i watch an offense. think thats why i loved watching TO's offense in action so much.

Tech doesn't run a West Coast.

sorry if i was unclear about that, they dont, but their offense is sucessful, and that is the same thing everyone says about the WCO, "its sucessful".

Tech is a spread offense isn't it? Anyway, yes I loved watching the option we ran in the 90's under TO. I won't lie, it was because we dominated, and we put up points, and we won. It wasn't necessarily the system, or the way the offense looked. It was effective.

The thing about the "west coast offense" is that it is designed to be a balance between rushing and passing. For my money, I'd rather watch a team that can both run and pass effectively, rather than a team that is pretty one dimensional. With a balanced offense, the run sets up the pass and the pass sets up the run. If you can do both effectively, you've got an unstoppable offense. And to compete in the game today, you need to do that... at least if you want a chance at a national championship.

Yea, I couldn't really tell, so I erred on the side of being an a$$. :)

Yeah, TT is a spread...so is their line...has anyone else seen a line play that far apart before? And it is legal? Just late-night thinking, sorry if it's incoherent -_-
