Big Ten Coaches Anonymous - sizing up the competition

Athlon did an article, which you can find HERE, made up of Big Ten coaches talking anonymously about other teams. Good analysis of the Huskers here. Can't see anything I disagree with:

Nebraska

Opposing coaches size up the Cornhuskers:  “Most places, if they had a choice, would take nine wins a year. Nebraska is not one of those places. Bo Pelini’s nine-win season was viewed somewhat as a disappointment — okay, it was viewed as a major disappointment. … The Cornhuskers thought the Big Ten would have to adjust to them, but it was the other way around. Nebraska’s only signature victory was against a Michigan State team playing the week after an emotional Hail Mary upset against Wisconsin. The losses were brutal. They were blown out by Wisconsin and Michigan and upset at home by Northwestern. The Capital One Bowl loss to South Carolina summed up the year. … Will the Huskers bounce back or will they regress? They have nearly everyone back, at least most of the key contributors, such as quarterback Taylor Martinez, I-back Rex Burkhead and wide receiver Kenny Bell. I like Burkhead. He is really good. Tough kid. … The defense also returns nearly intact, but last year they were simply porous at times. I can’t remember the last time a Nebraska defense allowed that many points. Defensive coordinator Carl Pelini moved on to take the head coaching position at FAU, so we’ll get to see if John Papuchis, who was their defensive line coach, can fare any better as Nebraska’s new coordinator.”

Seems about right, right away this coach brings up our high expectations. Leads me to believe this isn't a coach from MIchigan, Ohio State, or Penn State. Probably not Wisconsin either.

I just hope the defense is better with the experience and can get us 5 three and outs a game. Do that, and if the offense is what I hope/pray it is going to be and we will be fine.

10-2, B1G Championship Game...Rose Bowl.

There's my rose colored Kool-Aid drinking prediction.

 
The cosgrovian performances last year vs Whisky, Michigan and South Carolina have really influenced the perception of the Blackshirts.

Time to turn it around.......!

South Carolina maybe (after they got our best defensive player ejected by punching him multiple times)

But Wisconsin and Michigan were more about turnovers and special teams errors than anything about the defense. (aside from the halftime hail-mary)

 
Is it just me, or does the article read like an Athlon writer wrote it as compared to what a coach would say?

I thought the same thing. I wonder how much of that is actually direct quotes and how much of that was paraphrased from emails or something. Hard to say.
