SBC All-Big 12 Honors Notebook:

Vince Young is the fourth player from Texas to be named SBC Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year. Jamaal Charles is the fifth SBC Offensive Freshman of the Year from UT, while Brian Orakpo is the fourth Longhorn to be named SBC Defensive Freshman of the Year. The three totals for each award are the most of any school in the league.

Nick Reid and Robert Johnson's selections mark the first time a player from their schools have won the respective awards.

Oklahoma has had the SBC Defensive Newcomer of the Year three times in the last four seasons.

Mack Brown's SBC Coach of the Year honor marks the first time a Texas mentor has earned Big 12 recognition.

Reid's honor is just the third major award for a KU athlete. Previous Jayhawks who earned accolades include Joe Vaughn (2003) and Bill Whittemore (2002), who were both named SBC Offensive Newcomer of the Year.

Texas and Oklahoma are tied for the most major award honorees in the 10-year history of the Big 12 with 16 each. Kansas State is next with 11 winners, followed by Nebraska (7), Iowa State (6), Colorado (5) and Texas Tech (4).

Seven athletes garnered SBC All-Big 12 First Team accolades for the second time in their careers. Willie Andrews (Baylor), Mason Crosby (Colorado), Adrian Peterson (Oklahoma), Justin Blalock (Texas), Jonathan Scott (Texas) and Michael Huff (Texas) were repeat selections from a year ago. Dusty Dvoracek (Oklahoma) earned honors for the second time after being tabbed in 2003.

As I said in another thread, it's more of who you are than what you do when it comes to any award not named the Maxwell or Heisman.

the fact that carriker isnt on the first team, and mckeon and le kevin are not even in the second team really makes me pissed... and bullocks second team??? ok congrats to him, but come on, he wasnt the best player on that defense...

yeah mckeon should be 1st team if you ask me...along with carriker, and smith 2nd team with bullocks maybe honorable mention...

2nd Team WR: WR Dominique Zeigler (Baylor) Stats

11 Games, 48 Rec., 563 yards, 4 TDs

Nate Swifts stats

8 Games, 42 Rec., 610 Yards, 6 TDs

 you could go on and on with things like this...

if the coaches vote for these guys... well it must say that they dont watch other games which is a pretty good bet, and that those other coaches must hate nebraska... or callahan or something cause well... these players deserve more than this

The OU and CU QB's got Honorable Mention but Taylor didn't get crap. How many votes do you need to get Honorable Mention? He should have at least got one from McCarney and Barnett :devil . Also where is Congdon? He should have at lest been honorable mention. Wasn't LeKevin Smith the half way point Defensive Player of the Year? There are like 17 Buffs on the two teams plus the honorable mention. That is absolute crap. :flush Let's see the guy that leads the Conference in punting doesn't make either of the first two teams. That makes a lot of sense. These things are a joke. They always have been and always will be. :bang

go figure.

Actually you gotta produce in the win column to get alot of first teamers. I thought mckeon and koch got snubbed otherwise pretty accurate. I would of had mckeon 2nd team and koch first team.

Ross, Carriker, and Bullucks were all named second team all big twelve. Does anyone else get the feeling that some of these coaches dont watch the games? How is Carriker, who leads the confernce in sacks, despite being double teamed on every play, not first team, and how is Koch not even on there??? Oh well, at least Ross got some recognition, he deserves it after everything he has put into this program. On to the bowl game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :horns2 :horns2 :restore
