Biggest game of Callahan's Carreer????/

I've heard a lot of remarks that this is the biggest game of Callahan's carreer, and it got me thinking.

Yes this is a HUGE game, by far the most important of our season to date. It puts us in control of the North, which leads to the Championship game, which just may lead to a BCS bowl (ok, I know that is reaching, but we've proven we can play with Texas, and that is why they play the games, upsets happen).

But, all the games from here on out are important. Because we need to win them all to show improvement from last year. And yes, we are still in the stage of needing to show improvement, one season at a time.

However, I was thinking. If Callahan loses this game, is his career over at NU? I mean, that is what a "biggest game of your career" means if you are not playing for all the marbles. I think not. I think we are showing improvement offensively each and every year under the Callahan era. That means, to me, despite the results of this game, I would still let him coach out his contract.

Biggest game of KG's career - that just may be. Defense is where I have not seen improvement. I mean, yes, we have a lot of injuries and are banged up on D. But, to me, we are not seeing the steady improvement with the regime that we have seen in the offense. Also, we are playing a pretty good offensive team that we should still be able to shut down. That's why I think I'm labeling this "The biggest game of Cosgrove's Career".

Well said and true, IMO.

After getting over my furiousness of last week, I still believe in the kids.

BTW, MJ...remember how badly my Jr. Football season went? Well, the Jr. basketball team I'm coaching is STACKED! Your godson is the PG and the best player in the school is my SG.

This is Gary Pinkel's biggest game of his carreer by far.

 
This is a huge game. If we lose to the tigers it's almost impossible to take the north. Even if we don't win the northern division we can make huge progress this year. We have an offense that's made huge strides. We have a great running back rotation with some very good wide receivers. But if we lose tomorrow chances are it will be due to our defense not stepping up. We could be looking at least a 5 loss season and fingers will start to point. A couple of defensive coaches could be put on the hot seat. If we win tomorrow we take a little momentum into the A&M and Colorado games. We would then play a Texas team we almost beat for the Conference Championship.

I'm sure glad this game is in Lincoln.

i agree that it is a good thing that the game is in Lincoln.

however, i really have to disagree with anyone thinking that this game is the biggest in the career of either callahan or cosgrove. just 2 weeks agon cosgrove looked like a genius against texas. yes there has been defensive letdowns but we have to remember that teams are double teaming the DE's all of the time. we all know that the DB's are the weak point and if NU blitzes more the big play is more likely.

yes we lead the nation in sacks last year and are now where near the total this year. combine the double teams and 3 step drops by the QB's have added to some of the breakdowns.

just my opinion, dont point fingers and ask for anyones head yet. a little more time and i think that we will see that everything is on the right track.

 
I think Cosgrove is gone at the end of the year! Not because Callahan fires him but because he can't stand the pressure. He will jump to the pros at the line backer position and get out before he is fired!

I am pretty sure that Vikings job is closed. What LB coach in the NFL is on the hot seat?

 
It depends on how you look at it. At the beginning of the year, this wouldn't have been labeled as the biggest game of his career. But now that the season is almost over, circumstances have changed. If we hadn't lost to Texas or OSU then we would be undefeated in BigXII play w/ MU having 2 losses. We could lose to them and win our next 2 and be alright. Biggest game of BC's career, I donno, Texas and USC were big games, but not as important as this game. This could decide the BXII North champion, assuming neither team lays an egg the rest of the season.

 
I know this isn't that great of a possibility, but you know what would really suck? To beat the ever living crap out of Mizzou only to lose to A&M and CU. Personally, I can see us losing to A&M. However, it's very difficult to stomach the thought of losing to CU especially this year. I would wet myself if we beat Mizzou only to fall apart to A&M and CU and not make the championship game. I don't share the hatred of many on here towards CU probably because I live so close to Colorado, but to lose to a team in shambles like CU would really bite!

That's the game that really scares me. Losing to CU sucks and would suck even more this year. When we play them that will be their bowl game. They have nothing to lose.

 
I believe it's the biggest game of Callahan's career at Nebraska. Unfortunately the last few years have shown that many Husker fans don't seem to have the patience to go through rough spots. Despite the obvious progress that's been made, there are still droves of people who think Callahan is worthless. Everyone seems to be pinning their hopes on winning the North division this year. If it doesn't happen, even more people will forget the progess that's been made. So yeah, definitely a the biggest game of his Husker career (not overall career).

Huge game yes...not for Cally but Cosgrove. I have seen the improvement in the offense but not the D. Yes, I am aware of how banged up the D is, yes, I know we led in sacks LAST year but that aside, the D has not progressed at the same rate as the Offense. I am not a Cosgrove fan. GBR.

We've also recruited heavily on the Offensive side of the ball. Not so much on the defensive side. That should change this year.

We've also recruited heavily on the Offensive side of the ball. Not so much on the defensive side. That should change this year.

That is something I would really like to look at. I know that we did not have the players on offense to run the WCO, and we did have the players to run KG's D. Naturally, BC had to put more emphasis on the offense in these first three years, which may have resulted in the lack of depth on D we are now looking at.

We got talented players - just not enough of them, which shows in our D-backfield and LB's right now - injuries are hurting us.

Hopefully, we get players on both sides of the ball the next few years.
