Jackson, recovering from broken hand, says he'll play

Associated Press

DALLAS -- Nebraska running back Brandon Jackson, who broke his right hand in the Big 12 championship game, said he will play in the Cotton Bowl.

"There's no doubt in my mind that I'm going to play," said Jackson, who will wear a splint protecting the top part of his injured hand. "I'm going to play in this game. I feel like I'll be 100 percent by the time the game comes."

That's good news for the 22nd-ranked Cornhuskers (9-4) entering Monday's game against No. 10 Auburn (10-2).

Jackson busted out of a four-man tailback logjam in the middle of the season and wound up gaining 951 yards. He finished third in the Big 12 in rushing and all-purpose yards.

"He's been practicing all this time," offensive coordinator Jay Norvell said. "We're just going to wait and see how he comes along the next few days to see how much he'll play. We believe he'll be cleared to play."

But Norvell isn't saying who will start in the backfield.

"We haven't named a starter all year," he said.

Marlon Lucky was second on the team with 640 yards and was a second-team All-Big 12 all-purpose player.

Auburn defensive coordinator Will Muschamp has been impressed by each of the Nebraska backs.

"I think they're all outstanding," Muschamp said. "I think they're one-cut guys that go north and south and get positive yardage. You rarely ever see them take a negative play."

I dont know about the rest of you guys......but I'd be too much of a pansy to practice with a broken hand. He's one tuff son of a gun! I just pray that he'll be able to fully secure the ball.

Though, when BJ carries the ball now, he may do it with more of a consciences effort to protect the football.
