Black Jerseys

nor do i.

unless we OFFICALLY change to scarlet, cream and BLACK, i'll never back a black jersey.

blackshirts are the d. and it's a nickname for the d ONLY.

Sorry. Can't quite point out exactly where I said that black jerseys would fix it. Maybe it's a hidden message. I was just referring to the team (not the jerseys) overall that is broken....it needs fixing. But I know, you have your fanbase that enjoys your mini-psychotic episodes....go ahead and please them.

I also like how some favorites on this board are allowed to bash others and claim their hatred for them and don't get reprimanded for it. It's kind of like a clique in junior high school. I get along and can respect what most of you say. But some of you 'long-timers' overstep your bounds and are un-amazingly allowed to continue with it. I don't care actually, they are thoughts and ideas and words. They open up more and more conversation, opinions and discussions. My only point is that what is good for one is good for all.

Thanks for responding my points about adopting tradtitions that aren't ours. If that stopped, I would stop. I just would like my school to embrace what is theirs and stop trying to chase what's trendy. As the University of Nebraska goes, tradition goes, they should not have to chase after what Louisville, Georgia, and the like do to fire up for one game, it happens every game in Lincoln.

Its scarlet and cream. Those are the school colors. We are not the freakin' Raiders (although we have been playin' like them this year).

For the loud, annoying minority that want this to happen, find a way to write it into your Xbox and marvel about how bitchen it looks over a cool glass of Sunny-D. I hate you all.
Agreed.

Wearing black uniforms would do absolutely *nothing* for this team. Or any team for that matter. Whatever happened to the days of ripping someone's head off, then lining up and doing it again without all this fanfare and flash? You don't have to change the uniforms or the flavor of Gatorade or the chewing gum the concession-stand guy chews to get back to domination.

If you start squirtin' when you see Georgia wear black go be a fan of theres. Nebraska is Scarlet and Cream. We don't need to change. Maybe you can talk to T.O. about changing the colors to fit you...Pastels :o

Pastels wouldn't be bad it would match the way the pink shirts played most of the year :bonez

i dont understand why people are just shooting this idea down. People are acting like this is a petition to change our school colors. I would never dream of changing the school colors, but the coaches could use the black jersey's as a motivator every once on a while. I wouldnt want to see them wear balck jersey every other week or even once every year.

If the coaches let the kids wear black jersey's once every 2 or 3 years i think they kids would be really fired up for that one game. They could use it as a motivator instead of having to come up with some speech.

I am not saying they should do this next year because we need to restore some tradition before we start somethign like this, but in a few years when things get back to normal it would be sweet

If you dont think wearing black jersey's would get a team of college kids fired up you are dead wrong. I guarentee you it would pump these 20 year old kids up.

So in an earlier post you said

However in a few years when the new coach restores NU football to where it should be, i think it would be awesome to wear black jerseys at a home game against say a K-State, I-State, or Colorado ( a team that is somewhat of a rival) as long as we are big favorites and there is no chance of us getting embaressed.
emphasis was mine to highlight the point. Is this to fire the team up in a big game, or just for the hell of it when we don't need it?

Notre Dame's green jerseys worked the first 2-3 times against USC, after that their record has really sucked with them, and they had to pull them out against Army last year to break the green losing streak. It may fire up a team, but after the first hit it doesn't mean squat.

red is still the primary color of the team, being on the road doesn't change that
Back in the 80s we wore all red vs OU, and they wore crimson shoes.
That was one of the ugliest uniforms I ever seen, and the minute they came out in those, I knew that they would lose.

Do they change the Red N to black on the helmet to? Could keep that uniform and call it the dark ages.
I'f they ever would wear black jerseys, Id like to see red pants, and white helmets with red N.

How about red helmets with a white 'N'?

Let me put it this way. I think one of the problems in the last few years is that we have some players who don't appreciate what it means to play for Nebraska. I want guys who have either dreamed off running out in the home reds into the sea of red all their lives, or who embrace it when they get here. That's part of the tradition that makes Nebraska great. If we've got guys who need a different uniform for them to get fired up, I don't think they belong at Nebraska. That's my opinion.

Besides, blackshirts are a tradition reserved for the defense in practice (when they deserve it). I've heard about the chill that guys get when they are awarded a blackshirt. Does that mean less when it's also a jersey that the entire team that suits up wears every once in awhile? I think it does.

And as I've said before, I don't want to adopt some other school's thing of switching up uniforms. I know our uniforms have been tweaked over the years. I remember those awful curlyQ numbers in the late 60s. But we've always been scarlet and cream. Don't mess that up.

If you were a Michigan fan, would you say "why don't we change the helmets?" Or a Penn Stater, would you say "How about some bright trim around the numbers, wouldn't that look cool?" Of course not! Same thing here. We are the Big Red. Don't mess that up.

I'm sure there wil be a dozen more "I don't get why people don't like this" posts. I've said all I have to say about it.

Odd I don't hear anyone complaining about the volleyball, basketball, baseball etc teams having worn black as part of their uniforms while representing the U of N.
