Regardless of the depth chart already being out they haven't been handed out yet who do you think will get one this year, and why? The why reason more so for under classmen competing that could cause a shakeup still in the next few weeks.

as i think as already been mentioined by people on here before, the blackshirts will come back when the defense has earned the right to wear them again. not until then

I think the Blackshirts should not be handed out until after the VaTech game. Make these kids prove that they have earned the right to wear one. Plus, with the added confidence and sense of urgency to not lose that Blackshirt right before we play Mizzou.

If tradition is going to be brought back to "the way it was" before BC, than they should be in the players lockers when they open them up, if your named the starter on defense to start the season. Unless your filling in for an injured player who was named a starter. I believe that's the way the tradition was started. We all have our own thoughts on this, I just like the way it was done to start with. IMHO.

GBR!!!

I think they should be handed out on Monday of game week -- but only to the players who fit the "Blackshirt" mold. Thankfully, the Brothers Pelini know what that is.

Hopefully, all the starters on D would get one- but in "fitting the mold," 11 Blackshirts may not necessarily get handed out.

Maybe even more (in the past, 1 or 2 extra have been given in some cases-- for package players or select special team guys) or even less if some starters are less than deserving.

If you hand out only a few blackshirts it will discourage the ones that didnt get one. They might stop playing their best and what not. But on the other hand, in the spirit of being a blackshirt, the ones who keep workin their tail off to earn one would show me who had the character to wear one. But only the unl coaches know the plan, obviously, so we wont really know untill press finds out.

Since when is not getting what you want mean you quit or stop playing your best? If we have players on this team like that, then that sums up 95% of the problems we've had the last 4 years. If you don't get what you want, you try harder. If they don't, then we don't need them on the team. Improvement will be the theme this year because in most aspects of the game we sucked last year. Last year when times got tough, players lashed out at the fans rather than taking care of their business during practice and games.

I think blackshirts should be rotated as necessary. If a player earns a blackshirt then sits on his laurels but doesn't produce, yank it and give it to someone who deserves it.

I feel all the starters should get one, and a few specialists. I also like the idea of making them wait into the season, before VT or MIZZOU. But only this year. Might be a lift for that perticular game. Kinda like ND did, when they brought back the greens. In reality though, isn't starting itself reason enough to "earn" your blackshirt? I'm torn. For motivation maybe, otherwise give em' all one and let them wear it with pride!

Since i have seen it referenced a few different times i wanted to say this. The punter is considered a part of the defense because their role is crucial in field position. Kyle Larson was the punter during Pelinis year and there were many times in his career he was about the only thing we had going for us in the field position game. I know what the blackshirt stands for and whos to say that Larson didnt "earn" one? I personally think he did because he was just as important apart of the defensive game as anyone else.

my 2 cents
